Does anyone else think there is a mistake in the picture of the cast at the airport?

The main sign stuck to the check in desk features ''H.I international airport'', which I assume is Hotten International, but then the web address states ''leedsbradfordairport.co.uk''??

Strange?

I don't think it's strange, anything can happen in a soap opera, they don't worry about plausible story likes or getting things right.
I really like soap operas :tease:

Can't do with soap operas. I stick to the likes of Fireman Sam, Shaun the Sheep and Kung Fu Panda. far more sensible!!

I think that video is superbly shot, and I love the music too. There are a lot of memories in there for me, and it made me quite emotional! I saw this video, at the Airport Exhibition earlier this week, and loved it then. It is actually taken from a much longer video, lasting perhaps 30 minutes, which has far more footage, but no accompanying music. Overall I think that the video is a fitting and apt tribute to LBA.

Hi

Just wondering in these ideal flying conditions, do the airport prefer to use 14? Its the second day, no clouds, no wind, sun blaring where 14 has being used. I mean i'm not complaining love the sound of Jet2's RR 757 taking to the skies, the further the better ;)

It's all down to the wind direction and usually when the wind is from the South the weather is usually better.

I know this is strictly not LBA related, but its worth mentioning that the RAF Red Arrows display team have been accidentally booked to do an airshow in Cleckheaton on Sunday, June 24. So with them been nearby I wouldn't be surprised if they make an appearance at Leeds/Bradford to do a flyby on the day in question.

Military show organiser’s Red Arrows blunder

Published on Tuesday 1 May 2012 10:04

Military enthusiast Stuart Wright was only hoping for a solitary Spitfire to soar over the skies of the Spen Valley.

But to his surprise he accidentally filled out the wrong form.

And now it appears he has only gone and booked the country’s most famous high flying aerobatics team – the Red Arrows.

Mr Wright, who is organising the Yorkshire Wartime Experience war weekend, was shocked to find out he had inadvertently secured the display team by mistake.

The daredevil pilots are set to soar over Hunsworth, near Cleckheaton, when it is transformed into an explosive battlefield next month.

Mr Wright said: “Instead of getting a spitfire we have got the red arrows.

“I received a form that said I had to write down how many aircraft are in the show so I phoned them back and said I couldn’t understand why.

“I was told that we have got the Red Arrows so I told them I didn’t book them.

“I had another look at the form and it turns out we didn’t fill the spitfire form in.

“They have got two quite important things happening in England this year so the Red Arrows flying time has been reduced because of the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics.

“I didn’t expect it at all so to get them is just quite something.”

The tanks are ready to roll and soldiers will be bedded down into maze-like trenches in a boggy field as the region gears up for its biggest war festival.

Organiser and wartime memorabilia enthusiast Mr Wright, first got involved in the festival when it was held at Ponderosa.

Now the three-day event, between June 22-24, is hoping to raise money to support the work of SSAFA Forces Help.

The charity aids servicemen and their families in times of need, and for the Royal British Legion.

Mr Wright from East Bierley added: “These aircraft are coming for nothing.

“I have no idea how much it is to fly one let alone seven.

“I have asked if there is still a chance to get a spit fire for the Battle of Britain flyby.

“If you don’t ask you never know.”

The Red Arrows are set to make an appearance on Sunday, June 24

That is some award given how many other lounges they were competing against. Amazing really and a real boost for the airport at a significant time in its development,

Very well deserved in my opinion. Very nice professional staff with that special Yorkshire welcoming touch and a credit to our airport.Always a pleasure to visit.

[textarea]Pizza the Action - LBA celebrates Italian Routes

pizza_the_action.jpg

To celebrate the start of Ryanair’s Italian Summer route to Pisa this week, from Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), Chefs from The Saltaire Bar & Eatery created a pizza masterpiece.

Chef Ninela Bumbiere of The Saltaire Bar & Eatery, which will be opening at Leeds Bradford Airport this summer, created the huge Italian ‘flag’ pizza from a range of vegetables including mouth-watering tomatoes, mushrooms and green peppers on a crispy thin base.

Ryanair flies to three top Italian destinations from Leeds Bradford Airport, including Milan Bergamo, Pisa and Venice. Fares start from £10.99 one way for travel in May and June and are available to book before midnight Monday 7th June on http://www.ryanair.com

Tony Hallwood, Commercial Director, at LBA said, “We are delighted that Yorkshire’s gateway airport offers such a great range of Italian destinations. Milan, Pisa and Venice are a must for those seeking a cultural treat or city break with a fabulous selection of hotels and restaurants”

Chef Ninela Bumbiere of The Saltaire said, “Creating a huge Italian themed pizza was great fun and a chance to do something different from the Menus that we’re currently developing. When the
The Saltaire Bar & Eatery opens this summer we’re hoping to combine the best of Yorkshire produce and a dash of Mediterranean flair to create some great British favourites.”

I was up at the airport earlier, and i was watching the aircraft come and go when i got curious over why the airport changed the runway from 32 - 14 - 32 in space of 10 minutes, i watched 4 aircraft take off using runway 32 then a Jet2 aircraft back tracked to the turning circle at end of 14 and took off in that direction, then a few minutes later the KLM F-70 took off using 32. Anyone know why they do this? I've known it to happen a few times on a warm day like this.

Probably a takeoff performance issue. Runway 14 has the longer takeoff run. And the heat probably didn't help. It's not a runway change, just operational necessity.

It’s probably bound to yesteryear & is rare due to tight slots but from experience up at the “graveyard” watching movements with my airband scanner when the weather’s being glorious in summer with next to no wind I’ve known of flights being given a choice from clearance as to which direction to take off. This is of course is beneficial to flights heading south east e.g. AMS e.c.t. on straight out Lamix 2X departures from ‘14’ instead of heading west towards Poll Hill on a 1W departure from ‘32’ then having to curve around south east.

Officially, for noise abatement reasons, the runway of choice is always 32 unless wind direction dictates otherwise, but the aircraft captain can request 14. They are usually greeted with the response that the runway in use is 32, but 14 can be used if required for 'Operational Reasons' and 99 times out of 100, the captain confirms that to be the reason, and 14 is used. Whether or not it is always true that it is for operational reasons, or just a way of heading in the right direction to save fuel, is open to debate.

This happens more often on hot sunny days when aircraft take longer to become airborne. Although the concrete is obviously the same in each direction, the presence of Otley Chevin means an earlier take off point on 32 than on 14, where there are no obstructions above the level of the runway.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
