Interesting. I notice it's not Norwegian, and it is also due to start a base at MAN next year, so that rules out easyJet.

BHX must put some more apron space down soon with Jet 2 arriving in March and others in the pipeline.
There was talk a while ago about 5 new stands by the fire station by the grass bund
What ever happen to the remote pier option? I think the airport need to look again at that.

It's been suggested that a new pier is to be built where the 70's and 80's stands are with a walkway adjacent to the railway connecting it. Whilst it would be great to see and would add valuable terminal space I still think that more stands will be needed sooner rather than later.

Despite the front of it being painted there are still suggestions that the Elmdon Building is to be knocked down late 2017 or early 2018. If true than I wonder if there are still plans for a loco terminal over there?

Something along the lines of the main Ryanair pier at Dublin would be ideal although it would be one heck of a long walk if your plane is the one parked on the end!

Agreed that more stands will be needed - flew in last and night and we parked up on the 80's stands and bussed to the terminal. First time that's happened to me in a while. With airlines now using bigger metal I think an evaluation of the stand usage would be a good idea.

BHX were experiencing some technical issues with luggage belts today. This seems to be happenning too often. If you read the tweets regularly the amount of luggage complaints are increasing. With next years summer to be busiest ever the upgrade needs to be done in the coming winter. First impressions do count and people do look elsewhere to avoid the same bad experience.

Absolutely just going to show that a strategy consists of all the interlinking consequences of the major thrust. Increase the passengers - avoid at all costs self-inflicted wounds by not thinking it all through.

Talking of baggage retrieval, I have twice written over recent years to BHX gently suggesting better control of baggage retrieval. It is a fraught time; children reacting to tiredness and being cooped in an aeroplane, exhausted parents and others from journeys/jet lag - and then what? A scrum around the belts. My suggestion? A 1.8-2 m yellow line parallel with the belt akin to a customs 'do not approach further' line. The increased angles of view would give every chance for those spying their baggage to ask politely for those in their way to allow them through if necessary. Plenty of time to enter and make a quiet exit without contact or affray. The line works wonders on the psyche of London underground users and it is very rare to see anyone encroach the platform edge nowadays. Add to that soft background music and a probable relaxing end to the holiday/journey. The responses? To the first, a thanks for the suggestion; to the second three years later - they had lost it and on resend, a disappointing nothing. However that was 2013.

There is supposed to be another baggage belt being added over the winter, I don't think that it's anywhere near enough though.

At JFK, the luggage emerges from a very high portal, way above everyones heads so that everyone can see the luggage emerge, and then position themselves accordingly.

At Portland Oregon (PDX) at the international baggage claim the airport staff take it off the baggage belt for you and then place them in against a wall for you with a member of staff. No scrum at the belt. They also have helpers at the domestic baggage belts as well.

Friend arrived back from Brisbane via Dubai today.
His baggage was delayed 45 minutes.
Not very complimentary.

There are clearly some critical points to remember about baggage retrieval.

Firstly, every right-minded person should appreciate that it does take time to remove baggage from the aircraft hold, put it onto trailers and then deliver it to the carousels. Accepting that, most people then want to know how long is reasonable time and at what point in that transfer are their own personal belongings.

I think the best system i have seen to date is the one adopted at Rio de Janeiro International Airport. There, they have external cameras which monitor the transfer of the trailers. Thus from inside the baggage hall you can see the trailers arriving to the point where they are off-loaded onto the carousel and, in my case, i have been able, before now, to spot my green suitcase getting closer by the second. Once i know it is coming i don't panic. I know it is not lost or mislaid, it is just a matter of positioning myself at a strategic point and waiting a minute or two.

But i do appreciate how fraught baggage reclaim is and with this in mind and BHX reaching record pax levels the airport management need to get on top of the game.

Will one extra carousel this winter be sufficient? I'm not sure.

Hi there ray, that was one of my original ideas, to relocate all locost budget airlines at the old terminal, then all the other larger airlines at the current terminal, this would make better sense and usage of existing land and buildings, plus bring old back into play... Andyc

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
