A loco terminal on the Elmdon site has been rumoured. Whether there are any substance to those rumours remains to be seen.

I think a dedicated loco terminal on the old Elmdon site could be like the proverbial curate's egg - good in parts!

Yes, it would take strain away from the main airport complex at a time when many fearing the site is bursting at the seams, and it would offer scope for expansion. But at what cost, what would it do for connectivity?

BHX is hailed as one of the easiest airports to get to by public transport, ie mainline rail, easy access from the motorway and long-stay car parking. How would the Elmdon site fare? how would pax get to the site from Birmingham International and would there be sufficient car parking 'over' there?

These are some of the questions that spring to mind, i am sure there are others...

If the rumours are to believed there would be new car parking added in front of the ATC Tower. I believe that an application for a car park went in around the same time as the Travelodge but I can't seem to find the plans. The road network would also need to be reconfigured.

I guess that the new Centro link road could be used for a shuttle bus between the two sites, whether it would put people off arriving by rail, then having to take the bus (even a free one) I don't know. I suppose if it's aimed at the loco's then people would be more willing, so long as the flights were cheap enough.

I guess long term there will hopefully be the new tram route linking the two, although that be require people to pay so would be far from ideal.

The new master plan sure will be interesting.

The hoardings have now been removed to reveal a staircase .There are 2 signs pointing down, one showing gates 49-51,the other gates 49-53.
Bearing in mind the airport doesn't actually have gates 49-53 I am non the wiser as to what is going on.I can only assume that these new stairs lead to and from a holding lounge or lounges of some description,or perhaps bussing gates.

Work has now also started on a new kids play/learning area to replace the previous one.

Brummiegem, whilst you're here have you heard anything about possible alterations to the top floor of T1? Rumour is that Smiths and Boots are closing and the departure lounge will be expanded? I wondered if you'd heard anything?

I'm afraid I don't know.
Following a sudden death in the family,I have only been back at work for a few days,so I am just catching up.
Unfortunately now I am on annual leave, which has been booked for a while,so I won't get to find out anything till mid August.
Rest assured if I find out anything,I will let you all know.

One other thing, the World Duty Free store is nearly complete.
Although it looks very smart,I bet there will be a few complaints about the long walk from the security check, through the refurbished store and out into the lounge.Obviously not everyone likes the shopping element of airports, but the fact that you have no choice but to use this route may not go down well with everyone.
Hey ho such is life eh!!!

Thank you for your kind words.
It is at times like these that you realise how important family and home life is,and how irrelevant everything else can be.
This is a friendly and informative forum that is s a joy to be part of.
Thanks again.(y)

When an airport, such as BHX, experiences very rapid growth it is inevitable that pressure will be placed on its infrastructure and in such circumstances it is very difficult to be ahead of the curve in terms of development to cope. But here, with this statement from PK it is heartening to see that BHX is alive to to its 'growing pains' and has set out clearly its determination to solve its problem areas, particularly baggage-handling. And be ready for Summer 2017! Good, timely news!

And in such a small timescale for the spend.

Very good to hear, two of the main gripes on TwitterFace seem to be car parking and baggage so it's great to see that they are listening to their customers.

With Jet2 coming the extra check in desks will certainly be welcome. There are supposedly some internal changes happening over the quieter period alongside this.

No mention of extra stands, there had been rumours of some being built adjacent to the fire station but I'm sure they will get built as and when needed.

Some very positive words from Mr Kehoe towards the end (y)

“We’re therefore working on our master plan to look at options which maximise the benefits of HS2 for Birmingham, the wider region, airlines and passengers.

“This will allow us to scope out how we can create a truly integrated transport network that can take the pressure off the overheated London system and transform our facility from a 25 million potential passenger site to 60 million
plus in the future.”

Definitely needs something doing with remote stands often used by Monarch. It it is wet and windy they are a nightmare. Needs covered stairs and some covered walkway / bus stops as a minimum.

This would be a relatively cheap option too, although I'm aware that covered stairs are expensive.

I think that, given the current discussions, the airport's best option would be maximum benefit for minimum spend - not that this is not in the mind of management full time.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
