Whilst I can sympathise with the frustration of seeing LBA seemingly reach capacity, I don't think Bridgepoint are solely to blame for the situation.

I think the main culprits are the local authority and various development organisations.. Bridgepoint would understandably require the council to not only be complicit, but actively working to support the airport. That does come in the form of surface access and a more supportive planning policy.

I fully believe that the Local authorities have played their part in holding LBA back. But it seems that these recent announcements are tentative steps towards a more productive partnership.

These talks of Leeds East are utter drivel, the owner himself doesn't envisage anything in the form of scheduled passenger services like we see at LBA. It certainly won't happen anywhere near DSA, where millions of public money continues to be ploughed into the place.. But I certainly don't think anyone should worry about any move of Jet2 to DSA.. That could be disastrous for Jet2 and they know it. I'm pretty sure other airlines feel that way too.

LBA has joined a partnership with Huddersfield Town FC - sorry no link however I've just seen it on Twitter

So we have Huddersfield Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough (plus Leeds Rhinos) but our Leeds airport still has no partnership with Leeds United??? As a LUFC supporter, NOT ACCEPTABLE. Sort it LBA and Adam Pearson at LUFC. Please.

Sorry but the world doesn't revolve around Leeds Utd anymore, yeah they are our local football team along with Bradford City but who's to say they agree with the terms that have been offered? "Money talks hence it's acceptable!
All I will add Is that at least the airport owners have gone out and done deals with local teams in the catchment area. It's better than doing nowt in my book to attract more passengers into using LBA.

True aviador I couldn't agree more. But don't think LBA will want to become a supporter of Arsenal or any other London based team anytime soon. Do you?

Ps: it was not a personal dig at Leeds Utd fans. Sorry if it came across that way.

LBA has a partnership with four sporting clubs already, I'm not sure the absence of one is something to get in a tizzy about.

Indeed it was Aviador. I can't help but notice though that we had a deal with Middlesbrough (the club supported by one of the airport directors) and then Sheffield Wednesday (the club supported by the airport MD). Not a co-incidence I think. And no, the world doesn't revolve around Leeds United, but for the Leeds airport to have deals in place with such clubs and not the club located within this city, seems somewhat careless. OK, it is possible that the deal could not be agreed - after all, the owner of LBA seems to be missing half the time courtesy of FA bans, but they are getting sorted now and it would be nice to think that both Leeds United AND Bradford City are added to the list of 'partners' very soon.

Method in the madness I would say. Why not widen the horizon of the passenger catchment area and get the airport better known outside it's traditional catchment area. It would of course be nice to see them backing the local teams too.

I believe that only 1000 people answered in a catchment are of 5 million and then it was only 1 in 6. Not really representative data.

1000 people is generally regarded as a good cross section of the population to be representative.

As far as I was aware one of the conditions of the sale to Bridgepoint was that the airport name could not be changed whilst ever in their ownership.

Having "International" in the name is far more important to give a kudos to any establishment. Lets stay with what we have got.

Actually, many airports outside the USA are dropping the 'international' tag, given the fact most airports do now have international flights, and is no longer seen as an elite club.

Certainly in the UK, having the 'international' tag is pretty meaningless given that pretty much any airport with over 500,000 pax per year has an international flight of some form.

Even the tiny airport of Cambridge has scheduled international flights!

In case you hadn't noticed, LBA appeared to drop "International" from it's name when the new logo and branding was introduced a few months ago.

Bristol dropped 'International' from its title several years ago and is now plain Bristol Airport.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
