You can’t attract the likes of Turkish, Qatar etc if you’re not geared up with the correct infrastructure.

Although not exactly a lounge in itself Cardiff has created a separate area within the lounge for the Qatar and KLM business class passengers. So even something like that would be a bonus for them.

It’s all about the correct behaviour and conduct. Business men and women can be as Leary as any other punter if there is free booze about. Similarly most families are well behaved irrespective of their destination. So if you pay to access the lounge, or have a ticket with privileges, so long as you are respectful of others and the environment that is all that matter IMO. Business class nowadays does not equate to a business person, it is just an enhanced ticket purchaseable by anyone- even to the Costa’s

I have taken a look the commercial departures at LBA today (Friday 19th July 2019) and compared them with the same day last year (Friday 20th July 2018).

The same eight airlines operate into LBA on this day as they did last year. The airlines are Aer Lingus Regional, BA, flybe, Jet2, KLM Cityhopper, Ryanair and TUI.
Major differences are that TUI no longer base an aircraft, and Jet2 have increased their base by 1x aircraft.
There are 2x more departures today in comparison to last year but only 144x more seats.

Still won't make it any more pleasant or reliable though. BA definitely missing a trick, especially at August Bank Holiday engineering works. Subject to no pilots strike of course!

Theres also plans for a 2 hourly to Bradford F Square from next may along with huddersfield added to the train map for services to london. Makes you wonder how this would impact the LHR service from LBA

Huddersfield just as likely to impact on MAN as LBA. The LNER service and reliability are not too great. The rail network is already overcrowded and LNER suffer lots of cancellations as it is. Even a recent 1st class experience of mine wasn't anything to shout about. LBA LHR more about connex than point to point so talking to some degree about different markets

Jet2 Check in at Leeds Bradford Airport

Reports of baggage belt failure causing delays and chaos at LBA today. (@Jerry this is the other check-in hall predominantly used by Jet2)

That is a perfectly normal queue for the Jet2 check in hall. Every time I have flown with them the queue has been out of the door and down the terminal but despite that, I have always been in and out in no more than 20 minutes. That said, they really need to sort that belt in there as it seems to be broken more than its working these days. I guess with the future terminal development, which no doubt in phase 2 involves enlarging the check in hall and probably new belts, there will be a certain reluctance to buy a new one now, only to rip it out again in a couple of years. If this continues though, they may have to do just that!

@White Heather 16 desks with only 1 Vivid x-ray machine and no back-up other than using the OOG screening.

It wasn't clear from the report if it was the Vivid or the actual belt mechanism. I know there are multiple sensors around the belt to detect blockages and these can usually be fixed quickly with a quick reset and restart. If the Vivid itself goes down it can take several minutes to reboot the machine followed by a quick test to check if it's doing what it should be doing.

Fifteen to twenty minutes can have elapsed by this point so a sizable queue can form but usually security will avoid using the OOG screening as they have different procedures that are more time consuming and labour intensive. So far from ideal to handle all hold baggage.

One attack was stated to be 4 miles from the runway, the other from between the A65 and Cardigan Fields Leisure Park - which basically would be the car park! It was also stated that both aircraft were 'escorted' to LBA by the police helicopter, which is a bit hard to fathom unless it was already hanging around the area when the first attack occurred. However, it is under investigation and I hope if the culprits are found, a very heavy book is thrown at them and with luck, Armley awaits them. Complete Morons.

I've used Sentinel for years at LBA and following a previous post on here I have looked at airport car parking via Money Saving Expert/Holiday Extras in recent times to check prices. As a Member at Sentinel where you get a 10% discount as a matter of course, the saving is only minimal so not worth it really for my next few days away. However anyone that uses LBA on a regular basis it is well worth registering with Sentinel to get the 10% discount as a matter of course whenever you book their excellent facility and service. The prices across the board on offer through the Money Saving Expert/Holiday Extras site are all pretty similar at LBA but Sentinel has the highest satisfaction rating (98%) of them all.

I used the offer at DSA a couple of years ago and the one-off offer the saving was worth having but not mega.

How long these savings will be available via Money Saving Expert is open to question but they are always worth a look before you book.
