I vaguely recall when the Councils sold the airport to the private sector that it was a condition of the sale that the Leeds Bradford name had to be retained.

Why drop Bradford?......why not drop Leeds?

LBA to Bradford is 6.2 miles
LBA to Leeds is 6.7 miles.......distances supplied by Google.

It should remain LBA.....if we drop Bradford does it then become LA.....hahaha now that itself has a pulling power for getting the customers in......

The airports Name or Logo won't be changed, its just a branding exerise!

Bradford should indeed be dropped... It adds very little if not only to confuse overseas visitors. On recent return flights home I’ve noticed the departure boards listing the destination as Leeds not Leeds/Bradford. It seems unless the airline specifies the destination the airport operator just puts Leeds as default.
I get the shortened default to Leeds but suggesting the Bradford should be dropped altogether is an outrage. I shall comment no further!

As part of the airport sale the councils of Leeds and Bradford agreed a special share in the airport, the agreement was the airport had to keep Leeds and Bradford in the naming of the airport. Whether this was a permanent and irrevocable agreement is any ones guess. In any case there is a way around this. The airport could simply add Bradford to the strap-line. For example they could call the airport: "Leeds International Airport - Serving Leeds Bradford and the Yorkshire Region" or "Leeds International Airport - Gateway to Leeds Bradford and Yorkshire" To be honest, I don't know why Bradford folk get beat up about the idea of the airport losing Bradford from it's name altogether. Regardless of whether the airport is closer to Bradford or not, the airport lies within the Leeds boundary. It really is as simple as that. PIA wouldn't give a hoot what the airport is called. It never bothered them when the withdrew flights from the airport.

Bloody hell didn't see that one coming! The airport has just appeared on BBC Look North lunchtime news.

Reporter said the owners AMP are rebranding airport to try an attract new business routes with Frankfurt and Paris high up on that list. I guess the maybe more indeft coverage on this eveings 18:30 edition.

Steady on, outrage or not, there’s no suggestion that Bradford is going from the name, just my thoughts on distancing the Airport from the Glasgow Prestwicks, Doncaster Sheffields, Durham Tees Valleys etc.

As I see it, the only time an appendage is needed is when there is more than one airport serving a population centre, ie. London. Otherwise, Bristol, Glasgow, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester etc. show the way.

As for ‘International’, tastes abroad may differ, but the marked trend in the UK in recent years is to drop it.

It's all down to marketing and whatever you think about the word "international", we have three internationally renowned cities nearby so it makes complete sense to use the word international. Many people don't even realise the airport is an international airport, in fact most of the destinations it serves are international.

Personally, I always thought Leeds Bradford International Airport was too long. Leeds International Airport sounds better. In all honesty though I guess they're looking at using something like "Leeds Bradford Airport - Yorkshire's Airport" which is basically what has been suggested.

What will matter in the end will be the infrastructure, speed and passenger comfort getting through the airport. If those aren't right they can call the airport what they like but it wont make any difference. If on the other hand the airport terminal is transformed making it quick and easy to transit through with little fuss then maybe that will be enough to get more business passengers to use the airport.

Many people don't even realise the airport is an international airport,
I think the problem is that many people don't see Europe as international they kind of reserve that for places like NYC or Dubai.

Joking and opiniated views apart we are once again all entitled to our views. And if I am honest I would still use LBA even if Bradford was dropped. Perhaps it should stand for Locally Brilliant Airport

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
