hi all
the first 3 months of 2014 showed a record amount of british tourists visiting the Andalusia region of spain (Malaga airport) also they are predicting a record year,so good news for ryan air & jet2 its a shame monarch don't fly from lba to agp as I feel sure there would plenty of business for them ex-LBA.
regards

Ibiza airport is projecting a 11.4% growth in the period may to Oct, again good news for our LBA based airlines.
Jet2 Holidays expect a large growth on last year, according to there presentation to the tourist board in january.
malaga has seen a 6.6% growth in traffic this year and they expect to receive just over 11.5m passengers before the end of October a overall 5% increase.
Again Jet2 and B A who have restarted the heathrow route are listed as being at the forefront of this growth.
Some growth has to come through LBA.

As I predicted a few months ago the airport is now starting to contract. If you stand still you go backwards in aviation terms.
In the many years since Bridgepoint bought the airport we have had alterations to the internallayout of the original terminal and a weather shelter built. If this had been shown on the masterplan as the only work they would be done in the subsequent years since the airport's purchase we would all be up in arms.
Serious questions need to be asked of Bridgepoint. Are they capable of doing what they promised all those years ago of expanding the infrastructure of the airport while at the same time being financially able to offer deals to the airlines for growth and stopping them heading off to other competing airports?

I'm not sure what you are getting at LUFC PETE so can you elaborate a little so that I'm in a position to agree or not with you?

Anyone know why the aircraft on approach today over Leeds are slightly off the usual flightpath? They are maybe a mile or so to the left of the norm as they approach for a 32 landing.

I noticed that last week but wondered if aircraft were heading to the LBA before being directed for an approach to runway 14, possibly for a visual approach?

The runway 14/32 ILS is out of use, So aircraft are having to make Non Precision approaches according to the following NOTAM which may explain the different flight paths in operation today...

C2115/14: Leeds Bradford: ILS : miscellaneous plain language
Q) EGTT/QICXX/I/NBO/A/000/999/5352N00140W005
RWY 14/32 ILS APPROACHES NOT AVAILABLE DUE WIP, UNLESS NON PRECISION
APPROACHES ARE PRECLUDED BY WEATHER.

On the forum there is frequently discussions about the runway length and it ability to handle certain types of aircraft. There is talk of past movements; Wardair 747s, Wordways L1011s etc etc. Obviously there are many factors that come into play; distance of route, heaviness of plane, runway state, prevailing wind and temperature, runway contamination, type of engines, runway landing aids etc. The list goes on and on. Also the rules regarding safety margins have changed since those heady days of jumbos and tristars.

Basically though the runway is too short. As the runway length decreases the risk of an accident / diversion increases and therefore airlines that own larger aircraft that are capable of operating from the airport will be less inclined to do so the shorter the runway is. This factor will always come into play at LBIA. With so many sliding factors as discussed above the one thing an airport operator must offer to be able to be attractive to a wider range of airlines is a suitable runway. The West Yorkshire conurbation and surrounding population will not have an airport fit for purpose until the runway situation is at the very least improved. Lets hope that Bridgepoint follow the plans on their masterplan.

On a popular Manchester airport forum, somebody posts daily stats of selected flights and I was wondering if anybody here has access to this information on LBA flights?
Like it would be interesting to see how the daily LHR loads, BHD loads & weekly CPH loads are doing etc
I was just thinking it could be a good new thread to set up!

Thanks AP1995

I can't really disclose pie reticular airlines numbers in a public forum, but I'll find out, in the mean time check your inbox

I have noticed over the last few days earth moving vehicles working below the ground radar when looking from Scotland Lane and several HGV Tippers entering the entrance to the car parks of Whitehouse Lane. Are they extending the car parks or apron parking?

See Teeside airport railway station shown to be the worst used station in the u.k. being used by average 8 passengefs a week. Hope LBA management dont see these figures, does show even with an a station at the airport far more people used Darlington station for ghe airport.

Your a bit optimistic with 8 passengers a week. The official figure is 8 a year in 2013. It's a 15 minute walk from the station to the terminal with only 2 trains a week on a Sunday. I suspect that them 8 people weren't air passengers probably train spotters!!!

For information LUFC Pete is no longer with us. He has had his account suspended indefinitely for bringing the forum into disrepute. Not exactly sure what good it will do though with more people leaving us than joining us at the moment. Sadly his general tone did not reflect what F4A is all about but I expect we'll be quiet without him.

Thats a shame , although I don't post very much , I visit almost everyday , sometimes twice a day. Its a fabulous resource for information , although its hard to keep up with some of the experts on here. Nether the less , there is no need for bad feelings. The majority have a great attitude and I appreciate the effort contributed , keep up the good work everyone. :whiteflag:

A station with hardly any trains (and not near anything it would seem) gets almost no passengers.. that's a suprise! There are two stations between Stockport and Stalybridge (Dention and Reddish South IIRC) that get one train a week.. in one direction. I think the only people who use them are the train spotters, because they're not much use to anyone else!

Ironic isn't it. Teesside has a railway station crying out for an airport and we have an airport crying out for a railway station!!

Beautifully put!

Be careful what you say, otherwise we will end up with some politician campaigning to move LBA to Teesside so it has a railway station!

Seeing on the news today that Edinburgh's new tram system from the city centre to the airport has just opened 3 years late, double the budget and only half the original length, you have to wonder what any rail transport from Leeds to LBIA would end up costing and taking to build!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
