I stopped taking the YEP a few years ago when it transformed itself into being like The Sun.
Lots of sensational inaccurate journalism which only appeals to readers of limited intelligence.
About on a par with Look North probably.

It isn't even an evening post anymore either because it's printed the night before.

The man sounds a complete idiot.

I had to read the piece three times to understand when he was talking about BCN and when about LBA.

He jumps from one airport to the other in a most confusing way, unless his letter was edited by the subs at the paper which is often guaranteed to cause confusion in a story, even those written by journalists.

There are many like him in the files of Skytrax with every airport the target at some point.

One bloke once gave BHX 1 out of 10 on Skytrax merely because there was no water fountain at the airport.

Flew to BFS (and back) last Friday afternoon and thought I would comment on my experience. Previous use of LBA has always been satisfactory although I have travelled at "quiet" times.
I arrived at security at 2.40pm and cleared at 2.45pm. The departure lounge was busy but there were seats available but queues at the retail outlets. Inbound aircraft on time, outbound 10 mins late (made up on route).
I had to go landside at BFS and then return through security where it took me 25 mins. There was space in departures but was busy near the gates. Inbound flight early, left on time arrived early LBA. Straight off the aircraft through arrivals and on the way home.
Thank you LBA, thank you JET2 and all staff encountered were helpful and professional.

Re: Leeds Bradford Infrastructure & Developments

Congratulations to LBA for restoring the escalator near stand 7.
It is also moving upwards instead of permanently down.
A lot of older passengers and mothers with hordes of kids and baggage will appreciate this.

Re: Leeds Bradford Infrastructure & Developments

:yahoo: :yahoo: i agree with wawkrk this has been one of my gripes with the airport for the last 2 years.what used to annoy pax was the dam thing was was running slowly down, when i asked the jet 2 staff to reverse it i was told they did not have a key.

Re: Leeds Bradford Infrastructure & Developments

To add to your comment Snowman,
I once arrived on a 733, maybe up to 140 pax. The escalator was coming down. I asked the ground staff member can you change it. She said no, we have to bring the BMI pax down this is the reason. So this plank brings a few scragg ends down for an Embraer, and 140 assorted pax of all ages had to use the steps. Also, is it not easier to walk down the steps than to walk up?

It is certainly nice to read some positive feedback Seasider, so thanks for that. All too often, people are quick to complain but slow to provide praise.

A bit of help please, trying to pick the brains of the more seasoned travellers amongst us! I'm planning a possible short trip to Dubai in the not too distant future, looking on KAYAK it would seem the cheapest flights are with KLM/Air France through AMS or CDG. Alot of the cheaper flights have a connection time of only about an hour in AMS and 1hr 20 in CDG, is this enough? I've never flown into AMS and only once been through CDG but I'm wondering whether I'm just better off going to either MAN or NCL and flying Emirates? (about £150 more per person but direct). Anyone's thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks, Happy New Year all

Michael

Hi Michael, a very new year to you as well.

An hour/hour and a half interchange between flight is probably the minimum you want to risk if you are switching flights. Although both Amsterdam and Paris CDG have sophisticated formula's in place to make sure that passengers like yourself make a flight on time, you cannot get away from the fact that the slightest delay could just make you miss the check-in deadline.

Often enough as well, airlines, even some with alliances with each other I have found, are quick to pass responsibility and to some extent you could argue no matter how close the airlines are, neither of them take responsibility for you missing your onward connection, so paying the extra £150 could be your insurance if you see it like that.

The other easier option would be to take a direct flight with Emirates from either Manchester or Newcastle but of course you would be paying the extra £150 plus petrol or other travelling expenses.

Have a great break if you do decide to book!

Regards.

Thanks Tom, in all honesty what you have put mirrors my thoughts fairly accurately. I'll keep looking!

For what it's worth I've used Emirates to/from Dubai twice in the past 14 months, once from Birmingham and once from Gatwick, although on both occasions I flew on to Australia and return.

From my experience I can recommend them.

If you are a fan of in-flight entertainment (I'm not) their ICE system is reckoned by many to be the best of any airline in the world.

If you fly using KLM through Amsterdam using KLM and a full partner airline and you miss your connection, then you will be offered a seat on an alternative flight at no extra cost.
If it's an overnight delay caused by a technical problem, then you also get a hotel. If it's a weather related delay, you get another flight but have to pay for your own hotel.
Generally the system does not allow you to book if the connection is too tight. I have booked flights with a 50min connection time and it was accepted.Of course no check in required in Amsterdam.
I have also missed many connections over the years with delays and cancellations from LBA and other airports but I always was re-booked free of charge.

Right looking at the diversion of the Leeds to Chamberry flight to Lyon it got me thinking i work on the railway and have to route learn and learn all major stations etc do pilots and senior cabin crew have to know the airport for a normal diversion (not emergency) also popped into my head too when the LBA to New York went to that little airport a few weeks back? as they seem to be able to go to pretty much any airport when theyre diverted?

I have to agree with you. I've never had a problem with KLM AMS onward flight connections even though it does help if you know your way around AMS. Their systems won't allow you to book a through flight if insufficient time exists for the connection. That doesn't prevent delays at LBA however which could mess the whole thing up. KLM will look after you though in that event.

If you are going to Dubai you can also avoid the Shengen passport control which can be a bit of a spanner in the works when things are tight (although there is a short connection lane). Of course landing on the Polderbaan and it's 20 minute taxi to the Fokker farm is in the hands of the gods (or at least Dutch ATC).

I've flown transatlantic from LBA via AMS with similar connection times and had no problem - if the connection is too short the system won't book it. I believe the minimum connection in AMS is 45 mins. You don't need to re-check in in AMS, just go to the gate. If your connection is looking a bit iffy the flight attendants should come and talk to you about it, normally to confirm your next gate.

If you miss the connection KLM will re-book you from AMS.

many thanks to all who have given their advice re Amsterdam connection times - it would appear from all your accounts that the system is well tried and tested so it'll be up to my choice ......... and risking the wrath of my wife if we miss a connection!!

Thanks again

I flew MAN/DXB in November on the A380 and can wholeheartedly recommend them, yes in IFE was superb. If travelling on my own I would make "risk" the connection via AMS but if travelling with my wife I would go for the direct flight.

I've set up a new poll on this thread so passengers can vote on their recent experience using Leeds Bradford airport. If you vote Average or Poor it would be good to know what would have made your experience better?

Please don't vote if you haven't used the airport recently within the last month or so.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
