I agree, strange they didnt fly into Leeds.

Possibly an EMA based aircraft, and that would have meant it wasn't there first thing next morning to operate its flight (assuming it wouldn't have been aĺlowed to depart LBA before 0600).

That was a test flight which it finally passed and is now back in service operating a flight down to Alicante.

I did wonder but for an empty 733 it had a long take off roll even taking account of the heat. Maybe not pushing the engines too hard?

Once I saw a B733 take off empty, the engines were so de-rated it sounded from a distance like a B738. Runway 32 takeoff, still took off before taxiway November intersection (maybe around Taxiway Lima)

I've had a look - the engines didn't sound particularly strained and I've seen empty takeoffs use around that much runway before (it was about 1000-1100 metres)

Anyone know what HLYA is doing today? There is nothing currently showing on FR24, not even a positioner to MAN, so is it staying at LBA as a precautionary back-up?

Just goes to show how much Jet2 need to lower their prices from Manchester before people will fly from there. It also shows how LBA really can be a cashcow for Jet2 and Ryanair.

I doubt that. This will be because of the number of seats released for flight only. Most Jet2 services are reserved for Holidays. Given that MAN will have more capacity, they will have more flight only seats available.

"Friendly low fares"

Dynamic pricing. High fares indicate high demand compared to seat capacity. The Friendly Low Fares cease to exist as the bookings roll in, often over a year before departure.

More seats and choice at MAN so they probably take longer to fill all the aircraft. A better comparison would be LBA fares compared to NCL or EMA, but with LBA being dominated by Jet2, their seats fill up pretty quickly so fares go up quickly too.

Supply and demand takes me back to economics A-level. We are lucky in that the high net worth demographics (geography A-level) means that we have a lot of clients willing to fork out a bit more brass (definitely not English A-level) rather than go over the hill. Long may that continue.

Not true, Jet2 do not reserve any seats back for Holiday only customers. They did trial Holiday only flights, look how that turned out.

Jet2 are greedy, I always look to book within 4-8 week window, the prices, seem to drop dramatically.

If there is no mechanism to “hold” blocks of seats for Holidays, they could forego the value of whole holiday itineraries in exchange for a bucket and spade seat. You do the maths.

Contributors on this forum regularly note how much more expensive seat only is on Jet2 than on other carriers. It is the same at other bases. That is to deter flight only and leave the aircraft open for IT packages they know they can sell. When the package sales start to slow down, they start to reduce the seat only fares. They are certainly not the only airline which does this.

Whatever the algorithm they use, not to do so would be commercial madness.

Couldn't agree more @gulftraveller and I will say this yet again, Jet2 have got very little wrong in their 20 odd year history. And if things didn't work for them at LBA would they still be here with 15 based aircraft (or whatever it is) and expanding their route portfolio. Something tells me they know what they are doing!
