I was a member in circa 1985-88 ish maybe longer. I used to be get Rotate but I think I collected it from Air Supply on the high street.

I used to do the trips. Heathrow was my first with plenty of 727’s, 707’s etc. There was also a Luton visit on the way home.

I seem to recall a visit to Coventry via Wellsbourne, Bristol in the poring rain and one to Stansted where we had a tour of the hangars which had one exotic 707’s/DC8’s from Africa. These were on a minibus not the coach though.

Hopefully my memory isn’t fading and these were trips organised as some of the others were air shows I attended which were excellent compared to todays health and safety requirements.

I certainly went on some of their coach trips in the late 80’s. I’m 99% sure the routing was Heathrow, Gatwick with a quick drop into Luton on the return. I wonder how many people on those coaches ~35 years ago are now active LBA F4A contributors:unsure:

Yes you’re right Jason. I loved #Gatwick it had airlines that only served the uk from there. CP Air, Northwest, Air Zimbabwe, Meridiana to name but a few.

I was at a family gathering recently with Trevor Paget who I believe worked in dispatch for many years. His wife Jean was an air traffic controller from memory.

I also used to live close to Mrs Elias (not spelt correctly I don’t think). I think she was originally from Hungary and ran the flying club bar for many years. She was quite a local legend.

Trying to think of her first name, must admit I thought she was German.

She also had an assistant called Amy, who did a parachute jump, and at the time was the eldest female to do a parachute jump in the UK. I believe that it was televised on YTV’s Calendar with Austin Mitchell. That was when the parachute club was based at LBA. They had a drop zone behind the Avro factory at that time.
Yes, Hilda and Amy. I recall a jump pilot called Andy Skelly.

TAP Air Portugal

The diversion last night, detailed and discussed on the other forum threads, prompted me to have a look at their other LBA offerings.

The Portuguese state carrier first appeared in the summer of 1993 with Boeing 737-300s operating a weekly TAP9647 inclusive tour flight to Faro. Four different aircraft were used with first visits being CS-TIH 07 May, CS-TIA 14 May, CS-TIG 21 May, and CS-TIF 04 June.

The next two flights were operated by Airbus 320 CS-TNA in September 1998 transporting the Madeira football club Maritimo to play Leeds United. On the 13th TAP9084 arrived from Oporto and positioned out to Lisbon as TAP462P, then on the 16th TAP463P positioned in from Lisbon to operate TAP9085 back to Funchal.

Our last visit was Airbus 319 CS-TTA which diverted in from Manchester on 08 November 2017 operating TAP324R from Lisbon, and after a short apron stay departed to Manchester as TAP324.

Speaking of TAP, I don't think we ever saw Air Atlantis at Leeds Bradford. Just about every other UK airport for their relatively brief existence but not LBA.
I’ve had to go down to the archives in the Barnsley cellar to get this for you ‘Oldendays’.

Air Atlantis Boeing 737-300 CS-TII visited LBA on 06 March 1992 operating from and to Faro as ‘AIA581/582’.

Didnt Air Atlantis operate on Friday mornings in the early 90s? Seem to remember a busy morning with Caledonian 757 and spanair md83 at the same time.
You are correct, friday mornings were pretty good between 10 and midday with the above airlines plus others. Caledonian stepped in and took on the toronto flights.
Wow good old days!

I have a photo of Air Atlantis at LBA. It's not a good photo though so relegated to my rubbish photo collection, which I can't find!

Out of interest what are we all going to do with our photos and LBA ephemera in order to pass them on to future generations. Donate to a museum?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
