The Florida went via Manchester yesterday(Friday) as well.Looking at the weather out in the atlantic I can sort of see why.

If that was for fuel, it's a bit of a surprise isn't it? The 767s seemed to go non-stop when they were doing the route.

Must have been one hell of a head wind or possibly the Captain felt he needed extra fuel just in case he needed to go round a storm?

Must have been if the MAN stop was fuel-related. The previous day the same aircraft operated to Punta Cana nonstop.

Great Circle distances from BRS are:

6780km to Sanford, Florida

TUI have had a habit of calling into MAN for a crew change. At times its been able to find out the reasons for this practice.

Surely though the crew is fresh with plenty of time to make the trip. I'd have thought they wouldn't have needed to change crew.

I don't know the reason for crew changes,but its happened a few times.

The aircraft that started the can flight via man was G TUIE. The aircraft that did the return today (sunday) was G TUII. Im not sure if aircraft was changed at MAN on the way out to can or weather it was changed down the line.It would explain the via MAN part of the journey.

According to FR24, G-TUII operated from East Midlands to Cancun yesterday before returning overnight to the UK operating Cancun to Bristol. It's now positioned from Bristol to Newcastle as is the custom with the aircraft that arrives at Bristol from Cancun on Sunday mornings.

G-TUIE did the reciprocal, operating Bristol to Cancun via Manchester yesterday before returning overnight from Cancun to East Midlands. Today it's operating from East Midlands to Sanford, Florida.

Some sort of operational switch then at Cancun as Jerry suggests.

TOM 6764 to Larnaca

The above departure was scheduled for 1540 today but has been put back to 0800 hours tomorrow. All four TUI based aircraft arrived back at BRS today at lunchtime/early afternoon without any real delays after their first rotations of the day, and three of the four departed on their second rotation this afternoon.

The one that didn't was the B757-200 that arrived from Malaga and presumably was rostered to operate the Larnaca flight. FR24 shows it as G-OOBH and it appears to be still at BRS.

All four based aircraft have scheduled departures tomorrow morning before 0635 so, unless one of them is to be delayed, TUI will have to find a spare aircraft to operate to Larnaca. If there is a problem with G-OOBH that can't be rectified easily they might have to find two aircraft. There don't appear to be any problems at Larnaca Airport that might have delayed the flight.

The hour before the SFB flight saw very heavy rain at BRS, I'm sure this could have been a good portion of the reason for tech-stopping in MAN.

Regarding todays Larnaca, G-CPEV (B752) is due to position in from BHX just before midnight tonight. This might be to operate this afternoons delayed Larnaca?

TOM6765 from Larnaca (due 0230) arrived at BRS at 1902 today according to the airport's web arrivals page. There is nothing shown on the departures page today re the outbound but presumably it away around 0800 this morning.

I know the Sanford went via MAN recently - unusually. I'm not aware of the Punta Cana previously flying other than direct this summer. Has it done so to your knowledge?

Im sure early in the season it went via MAN.Looking at the flight path it went up over Merthyr Tydfil then turned to Irish sea and down to the Atlantic and then over it went south of Ireland.

Punta Cana is the shortest Great Circle Route destination of TUI's three BRS transatlantics (not by much) but it's not coming back next year. Cancun (the longest) is still timetabled to operate 2 x weekly next summer instead.
