Quick call the Bristol Post!
They wouldn't be interested. They only publish negative things about the airport.

In my opinion it's no big deal. The punters travel to their chosen departure airport as planned, they arrive at their chosen destination airport as planned. So long as the airlines are happy with this kind of service then everyone is happy?

I think it depends on the individual. Me personally I wouldn't be bothered but there will be people aren't the best of flyers so won't want to go through landing and takeoff. I don't have kids but I'd imagine if you had young ones having to get them settled again after another takeoff could be a pain. And some people will just want to get to their destination as soon as possible. Which could put people off from using the service next year or the after. I think the interesting bit will be next year to see if the flights grow or not.

Has it gone via Manchester for performance reasons though? The B767s were able to reach Sanford non-stop.

One of the stops at MAN earlier this summer on the Cancun was crew-related. No doubt big g will know the answer.

As for the general subject of an en-route stop it's clearly undesirable but would people prefer that or having to fly from another airport further from their home?

In the end it's down to TUI of course, but if this is performance-related it's not a good sign that a 787-8 will sometimes have trouble reaching somewhere like Sanford from BRS.

If BRS is serious about long haul I find it incredible that they seem to have decided that a runway extension will not form part of their major look at the future of the airport.

Did the Bristol to Orlando trip a few weeks back on the Dreamliner. I hope it remains. Getting back to Bristol was so nice after a long flight. Was around the Hurricane Irma time and Thomson (I'll call then TUI one day) were pretty great about it all.

One thing that was brought up (only as we were landing in to Bristol by the captain) was that if it was too foggy the landing would be abandoned as the Dreamliner/Bristol runway aren't a good mix in the fog. Considering we seem to land in the fog about 95% of the time I'm sure it has caused all sorts of problems. The whole point of opting for the Dreamliner from Bristol was to avoid another long journey after landing. I hope this hasn't caught too many people out.

I'm not aware of any of the inbound Dreamliner flights this summer having to divert to another airport.

Runway 27 is equipped with Cat3b ILS which usually allows the enabled-aircraft/crews to land in poor visibility. This really means most of the larger jets that use BRS - the likes of easyJet, Ryanair, Thomas Cook, TUI. I don't know whether the short runway is a particular problem for a 787 under Cat3b conditions as I'm not technically competent to comment on that.

Runway 09 is not Cat3b equipped of course, reportedly because the falling ground on approach might give rise to unreliable readings. I'm not technically qualified to give a view on that either but it's certainly what I've read and not just on aviation website message boards.

I happened to be perusing YouTube a few minutes ago and came across this video that was taken yesterday. It shows the TUI B787 departing for Cancun which according to FR24 was made non-stop and the aircraft seemed to have some runway to spare. We don't know the load or how hard the engines were having to work.

Would BRS normally be at or near maximum thrust for a B787 taking off to Cancun? I imagine it would be near that.

I'm no expert but from what I understand aircraft can often flare on auto landings causing drift down the runway. This can lead to reduced landing distances making short runways somewhat undesirable for larger aircraft during low visibility conditions. Obviously, for your bog standard 737s and A319s using the airport in low visibility is no problem.

Thank you for sharing another one of my videos, I agree about the 787 using near full power but sometimes it seemes to be more quieter

Winter 18/19

A poster on the DP says there will be three new routes in winter 18/19. What they are is not stated and I don't know how reliable the poster is with such information. It's reasonable to suppose that Egypt might be one and perhaps Tunisia another.

Thomas Cook resumes Egypt from BRS next May with Hurghada and Tunisia also seems to be regaining some popularity with tour companies after the terrorist outrages of a year or two ago.

Could another one be long haul? Caribbean? India? Doesn't have to be weekly flights but a couple over the winter.

Didn't they inadvertently put it on their website about a month or so ago - I thought Boa Vista Montego Bay Reykjavik and marrakech wasn't it

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
