It's due to operate BRS-CUN, so it's either got a tech problem or needs to refuel. The weather (wind) hasn't been great in the Southwest the past few days. It's showing departed on BRS website, so it's certainly not delayed for an aircraft swap.

Just reported on another site that it went to man for refuelling due to crosswinds at brs

Surprised at that. I'd have thought a 787 wouldn't have problem with range to CUN.
Didn't know crosswinds would effect it that badly on takeoff fuel wise that is.

Nothing to do with cross winds at BRS. It was due to unusually strong head winds over the Atlantic.
The 787 has no problems with range to CUN, it's more the fact that BRS runway is short so all the limits of the aircraft for take off reduce. Had BRS runway been just that little bit longer it would have made it direct.

Had a relation fly back to brs from cancun sunday on the b787. An hour from landing the captain gave a speech for flying on the Dreamliner with tom, also in the talk he reassured pax that there would be a lot more noise from the engines as the brs runway is the shortest one they use with the Dreamliner. When they landed my relation said could see no difference in noise, even so he said was very quiet and said the best one he had flown on. It was good to hear his comments.

Surprised to hear that TOM are experiencing difficulties with the B787 in certain conditions at BRS, and this is something that will not be comforting for either TOM or BRS management, despite the fact that these issues may be few and far between it does question the performance of the BRS runway.

Care to expand?
Why will both TOM and BRS not be feeling so "comfortable"?

The dreamliner is a very quiet aircraft. I flew on a KLM one and it was lovely and quiet, only bug bear i had was the 3-3-3 arrangement. 2-4-2 is more comfortable.

I'm guessing that he refers to any other potential long haul airline that's monitoring the performance of the 787 at BRS. If an airline is minded to operate a long haul service to BRS with the 787 then if the TOM flight has to stop for fuel on a 9-10 hour flight in certain conditions then it might put them off.

Reasoning is, TOM will incur additional operational costs during times of such events, which will inevitably damage the profitability of the routes/holiday packages, in this case CUN.

As for BRS management, they'll be feeling the pinch if this does become anything close to a regular occurrence. TOM operational difficulties is the last thing they need long-haul related.

If the runway had been extended even just the small amount inside the airfield boundary this wouldnt be a problem ! i cant imagine thomson will be happy if it keeps happening .
i think this sort of occurance is going to start reducing the ability of the airport to keep growing

I'm not sure why but the Corfu-BRS TOM 6121 is currently flying north having just passed Derby. Diverting to MAN by the looks of it. Anyone know a reason?

Depending on the season the TOM 757 flights from BVA often divert for fuel on the return due to the short runway in BVA.

It's not uncommon for airlines to factor in a fuel stop when operating from short runways, on some days the JSI-BRS TCX will fuel stop in KSI depending on the weather.

If people are referring to Middle East airlines looking at BRS performance, then it will easily do those routes of 8-9 hrs due to the tail winds, the return sectors will be operating from longer runways.

Less! The chock to chock timing for Bahrain out of LHR is 6h 30m on GF & that's with much longer taxi / hold times than BRS. Have been on this flight with a total elapsed time of less than 6 hours on many occasions.

Dubai is scheduled out of LHR on EK as 7h (again chock to chock), which again is often improved upon depending on hold times into DXB.

Would have thought the ME is much easier than Cancum out of BRS on a scheduled flight, with less pax density and zero cargo

I'm not really thinking about ME3 routes but further. Looking at TOMs routes out of BHX and in the future they may want to look at Goa and Phuket but if they have to divert to MAN to fill up then that could make them reluctant to introduce routes like that.

Not just that, TOM may be reluctant to continue CUN and SFB if these issues become anything close to regular.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
