Bristol: TUI Airways Route News & Base Updates

It appears this winter (starting tomorrow) will see a weekly FUE-BRS-FUE flight. G-TAWX looks to be positioning NCL-FUE now in preparation for this. There did appear to be a gap on Saturdays for the TFS-based aircraft so I can only assume this will position from TFS-FUE on Saturdays to operate the BRS flight. Very surprising.

Thanks. The timetable suggests an away-based aircraft.

BRS will still be down significantly this winter on FUE. Last winter TCX and easyJet both operated W and Sa, with TUI on Sa. easyJet hasn't increased its operation this winter, neither has TUI.

I was looking at that the other day. I was just about to ask you the same question re PMI.

easyJet have 19 weekly for most of the summer and Ryanair 10 which with TUI totals 35 a week to Palma.

Thomas Cook would have had 3 per week, so the total might still be down a bit on this summer. I didn't collate the flights for summer 19 but in summer 18 there were 36 weekly PMI flights: easyJet 17, Ryanair 10, TUI 5, TCX 3 and BA CityFlyer 1.

Incidentally when I was at the airport yesterday I’ve noticed that tui check in is now in the main check in hall in a much more spacious area appropriate for the second largest airline at Bristol.

Good point about Palma capacity.

Mrs Y and I are flying with TUI to Lanzarote next month. In recent years our TUI holidays have been to Switzerland, with easyJet the carrier.

I can't remember when we last used a TUI aircraft. For many years nearly all our summer and winter sun IT holidays were with Thomson/Britannia. About three years ago we flew with Thomas Cook to Fuerteventura in December and definitely used the secondary hall for check-in. I hadn't really noticed that TUI had been using that hall as well, until now. I know that Ryanair does.

Although TUI will have more based aircraft than Ryanair at BRS next summer the latter does operate a lot of flights with away-based aircraft - probably the equivalent of another three based aircraft.

Smoke and shouting as protesters set off flare at travel agency

Nothing to do with BRS directly but this afternoon protestors gathered outside TUI's Broadmead branch in the centre of Bristol to protest against the company selling holidays to Turkey.

During the protest a flare was let off and a fire alarm was actuated.

These mobs of unruly people protesting against anything that takes their fancy and in so doing interfering with the right of people to go about their lawful business really have to be stamped on. They say it's their human right to protest. So it is the human right of everyone else not be intimidated or prevented from going about their everyday lives.

It must have been terrifying for the staff. For all they knew the mob might have entered the shop and attacked them.

For a second I thought that TUI were going to fly to Melbourne in Australia. In the 1980s Thomson's Britannia Airways (B767s) operated regularly from the UK to Australia on IT flights, and Melbourne was one of the destinations. I think the UK airports were Gatwick and Manchester.

Strange decision. Sanford is already 50 miles from Disney when compared to the 16 miles from Orlando International. Orlando Melbourne is 81 miles from Disney.

This is some 'busy' airport

Orlando Melbourne International Airport is currently served by four commercial airlines. Legacy carriers Delta Air Lines and American Airlines offer daily, nonstop flights to their respective hubs in Atlanta and Charlotte and one-stop service to just about anywhere in the world. Elite Airways is also building routes from its Melbourne, Florida hub. Toronto-based Porter Airlines also provides premium service scheduled flights direct between Toronto's Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ) and Orlando Melbourne International Airport.

Having travelled a lot through both MLB and MCO, I'd choose MLB every day of the week.

MCO is incredibly busy and the current infrastructure is struggling to cope, especially the International terminal. During the European arrivals wave every afternoon at MCO, the queues for the U.S Border can be up 2 hours! Not a pleasant airport to travel through.

MLB has a nice little terminal, a large runway, plus two smaller runways. The airport, although not very busy with commercial traffic is home to Embraer Executive Jets. There is also a large presence of a number of large aviation/defence companies; Northrop Grumman, GE Transportation, L3 Communications, Thales Group, Rockwell Collins, General Dynamics and HQ for Harris Corporation.

Not as far as I'm aware. They use a 737 to Hurghada.
