I think thats just where the cabin crew are being trained. Flight crew did training in Crawley which is next to Gatwick, yet they aren't launching flights from there.

You are correct, it will just be training as there is a generic training centre in Manchester that various airlines use as this centre has a variety of door training rigs and cabin mock ups for things like equipment and fire training.

Does anyone know whether the Newquay route will reopen? Such a useful route to have for avoiding the 4hr drive.

Interesting chat with Tom Screen (many thanks to Ian for sharing the link).

Qatar 'hopefully' back within 12 months.

EK A380 due back once crewing issues have been sorted, no timeframe given.

Sun Express to expand services in 2023.

Talks happening with an Icelandic airline with a view to a 2023 start.

Tom going to meet a US airline with a view to starting NYC in 2024.

Pax numbers hoping to be 10-10.5 million this year which would be amazing.

There's a few other bits and pieces about security etc.

Well worth a look (y)

Does this imply that the third daily EK B777 that Ian hints at -
EK number 3 more likely than QR
would be temporary, if the twice daily A380 service returned?

Let’s hope Hans doesn’t kill off air India. We don’t want another Primera situation where BHX looses long standing services for what could be a fly-by-night venture.

You never know, Hans could well end up being the best thing to happen to BHX, but equally, they could the wrong sort of disruptor. When Primera announced intentions, they were the best thing since sliced bread, but look what happened. Let’s hope Hans isn’t the same.

At least Hans is being set up to serve this market directly straight from the off.

Primera was already an established airline doing short haul from a relatively small market and then overstretched themselves trying to do long haul as well.

Id actually say an airline that was established, with good knowledge of aircraft type and ops probably had a better chance than an untried start up at a time of high global uncertainty, but we will just have to let time be the judge.

and for the record incase I get accused of bias or whatever, I think the proposed Sentra Airways is a disaster waiting to happen too, it’s just lucky they are not trying a route operating with another carrier already so no-one they can take down with them if/when they fail

Any hopes we had of Biman Bangladesh using BHX as a staging point for their Toronto and New York services seems to have bit the dust. Manchester is to be the winner according to Seanm1997.

But I thought that was why BHX were given the privilege on the final DC10 years back! :)

Unfortunately for Birmingham Airport, they can never strike a good deal with any airline that provides the routes it needs, this is why Birmingham Airport is slowly falling behind other airports, then its catch up time, but because Birmingham Airport management are to slow to react, then its too late, then the excuses start to appear.

With Biman operating LHR and MAN to DAC, why would anyone assume they would launch a new route from BHX to both DAC and YYZ, both of which would be untested for Biman?!

Biman said a few years back that BHX would be their stop off for Dhaka to YYZ and JFK.
Back then, the Biman CEO was very pro-BHX, hence the final DC-10 fights operating from there. I believe that shortly afterwards, he left Biman and the new CEO didn't share his BHX enthusiasm.

Bangladesh are finding MAN loads a lot better than anticpated and want to be able to top up the
Trans Atlantic fliights with Manchester pax in both directions both from Bangladesh and stateside with 5th
Freedom.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
