I may have been a little harsh in my comments, so if I have offended anyone, I unreservedly apologise.

I was referring to the point that 89LS was stating that DSA would be opening sooner than later as It has not been confirmed yet that it is opening at all.
I invite 89LS, to give us the details of when DSA is going to open. Then we can have a debate with someone who expects DSA to open shortly, because so far, all posters seem to think that it may not open.

Looking at his profile https://forums4airports.com/members/14224/, 89LS joined on Tuesday at 7:46PM and was last seen on Tuesday at 7:53PM. In that time, he posted two messages (the same message in the DSA > Jet2 thread and the LBA > Jet2 thread), which seem to have upset a few, on the LBA forum. Whether this has spooked him, and whether he will return, we will have to wait and see.

Just the one post actually Kevin.

Now before I get accused of not being friendly enough, I welcome his thoughts on the forum and he is welcome to explain his thoughts in more detail here. He posted within the forum rules and he made no personal remarks. Fair play to him.

Do I think he was here for genuine reasons, I'm not convinced. He joined, he posted - like dropping a cat amongst the pigeons - and he left. I have been running this forum for a long time and I have seen it before so many times.

Of course, he is welcome to come back and prove me wrong.

Has all the hallmarks of being a mischief maker. However we are all a friendly bunch (in general) so absolutely no need for him/her to run scared. As is said, if he has genuine info then all good for healthy debate. But in all seriousness, LS to DSA, or even DSA to reopen at all are about as close as my beloved BCFC winning the Premier League. Now that does put things into perspective!

If people came with facts/rumours/valid sources id be prepared to listen but not in dream world fantasies they make up / dream about. Jet2 have never been interested in DSA, never will. boring. No airlines apart from TUI made DSA work, its boring. get the diggers in and houses on.

I am waiting to judge their intentions, giving them the chance to explain where they got the information from. As I said, I would welcome debate which may, or may not, change my views.

Did they even suggest there was any information? It seemed to me that he/she was just posting the DSA lovers (not to mention their allies in Headingley who shall not be named) dream scenario which clearly involves stealing Jet2 from LBA because they think that would make DSA viable, whilst at the same time removing a large percentage of LBA traffic and passengers. It's been clear from their posts that they have come to see LBA as the enemy that caused their beloved airport to fail and it vexes them no end to see it doing well and expanding.

As far as I'm concerned it was a mischievous post and it being posted on the LBA thread was no oversight or accident. It was intended to be provocative. Well that worked!!

They that shall not be named appear to be honourary members of the SaveDSA lot, so who knows. SaveDSA has become so anti LBA that they are one and the same to me.
That is an interesting point how DSA supporters seem to only see Doncaster airport as being successful at the expense of LBA not because of its own merits. So by that I mean, DSA could say X catchment exsists or the airport could support cargo because of Y, but instead they rely on saying if Jet2 were to move out of a neighbouring airport it could do well. The fact of the matter is it does perfectly well out of Leeds, to such a extent in fact that it managed to expand to where it is today. I suppose they will say the same about cargo operations from EMA.

I think it also runs far wider than just cargo when it comes to EMA. They too have a good pax network. And as for MAN, well even LBA has leakage there. So blaming LBA for DSA’s failure is nothing more than pure jealousy. The 3 other airports named do just fine, including successful Jet2 operations so if blaming other airports is their way forward then they need to widen their net. Oh and while they are at it, significantly increase the local population so there is physically a chance of enough pax in their catchment area

The people supporting DSA lament the loss, but remember things how they saw them. Many people comment on ease of use and how it wasn’t crowded, and there lies the issue, it was half empty due to lack of use. The flights were bucket and spade and budget and there were limited spending opportunities on site, so no turnover opportunities for the airport. Convenient, easy and pleasant it may have been; economically viable it is not. Therefore, I let people reminisce, as even if it does a Lazarus, it will still be in the same position- limited customer base, on the fringes of urban expanse and extremely marginal at its best position. I see no one moving en-masse, no impact to LBA and a very expensive use of public funds if it goes ahead.

They said that DSA was to reopen "sooner than later", which to me, means they have some information about it.

I am waiting with baited breath for that.

Not a chance. Impossible.
I understand people close to the airport (possibly Peel staffers, not sure) have been told by Peel seniors that it is going to happen, not sure when but they are confident it will.

Truth is, Peel didn’t want to close it, they just had no choice. I know it doesn’t suit the narrative of those die hard proponents of reopening but you can’t operate into insolvency!

What follows now will ultimately depend on who is going to run it and whether there is the money to do so. So I would not be ruling out a reopening at this time until we know more.

Whether it will work or not is open to debate, as we have done for years now. I personally do not think there is an appetite for it and in 10 years or so it will be turned over for housing, but stranger things have happened.

I'm not ruling out it reopening (even if it is crazy.....). What I'm saying is it cannot open sooner rather than later. Getting the airport up and running again, including the terminal, procurement and installation of all equipment, recruitment of an airport full of staff , security checks, training, and all the rest, isn't something that can happen sooner rather than later. There isn't even the operator, lease, or confirmed funds yet. It may open, but at best it'll be 18 months in my view. Quite possibly longer. In my book that isn't sooner rather than later.

Understood, I think the OP was just using a turn of phrase and didn’t really mean anything by it in terms of timelines.

Ros Jones reckons it’ll be open earlier for non passenger flights, not sure what they have planned but perhaps they intend to open it next year and then try get on the airlines planning agendas for 2026. Whether any airlines will want to invest in something that’s already closed is another matter entirely, massive subsidy will be required regardless!

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
