Surely if the new routes for this winter carry over to summer we will need a 4th based aircraft or substantial increases in non-based rotations. The question now is will there be further route expansion, I know it's been said many times but many of their city destinations in Eastern Europe, Milan, Lisbon etc. are untapped markets for LBA so fingers crossed..

Are they not suddenly defending themselves against jet2? See this route is also out of BHX. I don't want to comment on whether both will find a happy medium and have good amount of passengers each but if it was one to win - then it has to be the one with a tour operator integrated into it's business. After all the seat only carrier now serves BCN so can't market GRO as Barcelona.

NB - isn't it funny - what comes around goes around haha. GRO was a substantial base back way back when. Also i suspect this will be an European based aircraft.

It would appear that the new Gerona destination starting next March will be operated by a non based aircraft- as a very early dep from Gerona to LBA. Good news though and a further move towards that 4th aircraft. I agree that several markets remain to be tapped such as Lisbon and Madrid.

Ryanair is the ideal choice for business and leisure customers, who can now choose from 25 Leeds Bradford routes in summer 2017 and look forward to further improvements, as Ryanair continues its “Always Getting Better” programme, which includes more new routes, new digital features, new cabin interiors and even more low fares.

In Leeds, Ryanair’s Head of Communications, Robin Kiely said:
We are pleased to launch our biggest ever Leeds Bradford Airport summer 2017 schedule, 3 months earlier than last year, which includes a new route to Girona, the continuation of our winter services to Bratislava, Gran Canaria, Vilnius and Warsaw to summer, and more flights to Alicante, Faro, Ibiza, Krakow, Lanzarote, Palma and Tenerife, which will deliver 1.3m customers p.a. and support 975 jobs at Leeds Bradford Airport, as we grow our operation by over 20%.
“To celebrate the launch of our Leeds Bradford Airport summer 2017 schedule, we are releasing 100,000 seats for sale across our European network from just £19.99, which are available for booking until Thursday (21 Jul). Since these amazing low prices will be snapped up quickly, customers should log onto www.ryanair.com and avoid missing out.”

Tony Hallwood, Aviation Development Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “We are thrilled that Ryanair are significantly increasing their capacity from Leeds Bradford Airport in Summer 2017; offering their widest ever low cost flight choice. With five new routes, including three to European capital cities, Ryanair’s expanded flying programme of 25 routes will deliver wider business destination choice, encourage a growth in inbound tourism visitors to Yorkshire alongside increasing the choice for leisure and city breaks for our regions holidaymakers.
“This substantial growth is fantastic news for our regional economy and highlights the continued growth and strength of the Leeds City Region alongside supporting the creation of new jobs across Yorkshire. We look forward to welcoming a 20% growth in the number of passengers flying from Leeds Bradford Airport with Ryanair next summer who can now increasingly fly close to home.”

A nice increase from the 72(?) weekly flights at the peak of this summer. I was looking forward to more new destinations but I guess we'll have to wait.. nonetheless a healthy increase, hopefully one which is sustainable with the other based airlines.

Good news to see Ryanair increasing the number of flights but why do they insist on calling it Gerona-Barcelona? It's no where near Barcelona! They used to fly to El Prat, how come we don't see that returning

That looks a damn good programme for next Summer. So, there will be 2 Palma flights on one day (I assume!). One daft suggestion I would like to see would be a twice daily Glasgow International flight. Rail service is only 2-hourly and takes over 4 hours. Road not much better. 3rd and 4th largest cities in the UK deserve better IMHO.

Because Gerona is probably a lot cheaper for them! Yet they want to market it as Barcelona most people probably wouldn't know the difference as Barcelona is a big city and could reasonably accomadate a smaller airport. Though 105 km may be pushing it!

Tell me about it big man! The domestic offering at LBA is so poor these days... I travelled MAN-DUS last Friday because I needed an early flight and couldn't wait for the jet2. The domestic offering out of MAN is so good in comparison... Yes I know its a hub and gets extra feed from connections but IMHO I'm sure flybe could offer a better service from LBA especially to the domestic routes! Sorry for the thread drift! Oh and great news these extra flights are for LBA!

Sorry for stating the obvious but since when was Dusseldorf a domestic destination for the UK ?

Agreed we've lost a lot over the years. Edinburgh, Bristol, Isle Of Man and Gatwick most recently. Cardiff as well from the Dan Air and Capital days.

Of course I realise DUS isn't a domestic destination... I was merely adding as to why I was at MAN. Yes lbaspotter we have the Loganair but it is expensive and unreliable. It's the reason I wouldn't use it last year when I visited family. I like Bigman would love to see Ryanair open up the likes of GLA, EDI and BRS twice daily much the way they fly to DUB. Pipe dream probably but who knows I just feel it's a shame we living in Leeds don't have the options others in smaller cities have...

:wtf:

lbaspotter - does a twice daily Saab 340 flight that doesn't even operate at weekends really fit the bill?? I don't think so personally

I don't know if it is a sign of the times or whether Ryanair's LBA operation is starting to have an effect but my November Friday morning flight from DSA to Warsaw with Wizz has just been cancelled, with the apparent removal of Friday rotations. I have rebooked onto a Ryanair flight from MAN so that my trip can still go ahead with a return into LBA. Perhaps the statement of intent from Ryanair at LBA with the year round operation of various routes is forcing Wizz to hold back a little.

I disagree because the just isn't enough passengers travelling between Leeds and Glasgow for ryanair to even consider opening the route with a Boeing 737-800 it would be just to large of an aircraft to operate on such a short sector for them to make any kind of onboard revenue..
All I will add is lets hope Loganair's new Managing Director can turn things around as his well known around these parts of the country

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
