Cornwall Airport Newquay - General Thread

If you want to get to Leeds you could always do CWL - AMS, AMS - LBA. 🙂
Yeah I've looked at that and it's expensive! £300 last time i looked. Gotta feeling they price it high to put people off using it for UK flights to keep the seats for long haul connections.

Try 2 separate flights: CWL-AMS; AMS-LBA. Might work

Sorry, just realised it's the NQY thread. Please move if required.

Jet 2 out at Newquay today. B757 taking off & landing over beautiful blue sky's. I guess they were pilot training using NQY's quiet sky's and massive runway.... for a moment I got excited thinking I had missed something and jet 2 had landed at the airport! Wishfull thinking!

That's just one airline group. Others could link NQY with LHR although I always thought it was an odd thing for an airport CEO to promise as airports don't run airlines.

The whole point is to connect regional airports into a hub and onwards with airlines like BA...
But it will be what 10 15 years till the runway is open so by then IAG's attitude might have changed or they could've bought or developed their own regional operation, which i'm surprised they don't have. I would've thought a NQY-LHR would be a route for Flybe or for them to operate on BA's behalf.

A couple of positive pieces in the national press today re NQY airport and the rise in passenger numbers. It shows the airport as being one of the fastest growing airports in the country. Of course this is all relative given its size but none the less, it points out how it's turnaround has led it to have more domestic destinations that London's top two airports combined, 13 for this year. Its definitely performed better than airports of similar sizes.

Hopefully if this continues we may get a big European hub link like Amsterdam while we await LHR runway three and maybe some development of a handover of the airport to the private sector and away from the council.

Here's to a successful 2017.

Amsterdam would be the obvious hub, but isn't the smallest plane KLM have 80 seats - is there the demand for that twice-daily? I guess flyBe could do it but didn't they and KLM have a fall out?

The smallest aircraft they will have will be the E175 at 88 seats. I believe the codesahare between KLM and Flybe has stopped. If Flybe were to operate a hub route then CDG might be better if they could get the Air France codeshare on it.

KLM connect to more regional airports in the uk than any other state airline and I guess if NQY want to connect to a truly global hub (as they have muted a number of times) while LHR gets its act together, then I think it needs to be AMS. It's the number one route out of Bristol and I rekon a good number of those come from the peninsula south west of Exeter.. Of course I have no idea if the demand would be there but maybe a daily service might be worth a shot? It would compete with Flybe out of Exeter and of course 4 x daily klm out of BRS but KLM gives you the connectivity onwards... I'm sure other airports like teeside and Norwich with comparable passenger numbers manage this (sure someone can correct me if I am wrong)..
Having said all this, NQY have made no secret of targeting the German market however I think this is a summer tourist market only so a pull for Lufthansa or a subsidiary year round might be a long shot..
In terms of Flybe, yeah I think the comments are correct and the codeshare has gone but they have made good of NQY in the last couple of years and I wouldn't discount them..

The snag with just a single daily service is that it would restrict some long haul connectivity at AMS unless a traveller was prepared to put up with several hours on the ground there. In some instances they might have to wait until the following day for onward travel if the long haul in or out of AMS had timings that missed the single daily to/from NQY.

I reckon you'd need at least 2 x daily to have any chance of success, with a night stopper at NQY in order to operate an early morning departure to catch some of the first wave of long haul departures ex AMS.

Why Newquay Airport Is The Best in Britain

http://www.independent.co.uk/travel...ransatlantic-aer-lingus-ryanair-a7699711.html

It's three months old but this article by a Cornwall-based journalist who works in London is worth a read by any supporter of NQY and by anyone else for that matter. She is positively gushing about the place and describes in some detail why she believes that NQY is the best.

Makes it sound like a trip to yesteryear when airports were far more civilised places than many are now.

Yes she is a bit.. I have to agree on some of the points, speedy, friendly staff, easy... I will say as I have said before though, continued growth means more investment.. it's all well and dandy when the sun shines but queuing outside in the rain or to get into the building isn't a pleasant experience..
incedently I made some enquiries re Malaga.. It's very much on the working list and they are working hard to secure it given its popularity and year round appeal. Not sure if Ryanair have a base there but if they do, the other three routes work well and they get what they want from the airport, I'm betting it won't be too long before we see it back. (here's to hoping!!)

Yes, Malaga is a Ryanair base.

Ryanair should easily be able to fill 2x weekly flights to both Malaga & Palma. Both routes would be great additions to the growing list of destinations available from Newqauy
Totally agree.. summer would work very well but I think Malaga would be a hit in the winter.. Monarch had no issues filling seats. I think we will see a winter sun route next year if loads go well this summer.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
