Cardiff: Vueling Flights, New Routes & Schedule Updates

Use this prefix for new threads for Cardiff Airport
On the other hand, this is Vueling. They’ll probably release a select few Christmas flights in mid November.
Idk i think this suggests something more but hopefully it doesn't mean they drop summer as well.

I wonder if FR will try to capitalise on this? With no flights to AGP from CWL during the winter months (except for a weekly TUI flight) they may jump in. I note there are 3 flights a week to ALC with FR but I would have thought that would be sufficient at that time of year.

Fingers crossed 🤞

Nasty rumour on the dried plum that Vueling are pulling out of CWL.

Does this not happen every year though - plenty of airlines yet to release summer 2026 flights.
August 2025

I’m becoming more worried as each day goes by that this may well be the case. There’s nothing on sale for S26 as yet, and they normally have at least up until June on sale by now…although if you were going to quietly leave an airport you’d do so before adding more winter flights wouldn’t you? Or maybe not.

I am a massive fan of VY and they have been loyal to CWL for many years - so I pray that FR haven’t shoved them out the door.

😒

October 2025

I think we need to accept that it’s mid-November and there seems to be no movement in the schedule for VY for next summer.

November 2025

I eat my words!

VY S26 on sale now.

But a very sporadic random schedule.

Hey, at least they’re hanging around…

End of November 2025!

And it's the same conversation every year because of Vuelings inability to plan ahead and release schedules. But even with late releases they still seem to do OK.
I guess based on last year we might have to wait some time for them to release Summer 2027, if they do. But in reality no-one knows if they will or won't, so it's pointless going around in circles speculating that they've pulled out completely.

BREAKING NEWS: VUELING CUTS ALL WINTER SERVICES FROM CARDIFF AIRPORT
CAN&I EXCLUSIVE

CAN&I can today exclusively confirm that low-cost airline Vueling has withdrawn all services to and from Cardiff Airport for the up-coming Winter 2026-27 season.
Vueling, the Spanish low-cost operator owned by the multi-national IAG conglomerate, had previously planned to operate a 3 x weekly service to Alicante alongside a short season of flights to Malaga over the Christmas and New Year period.
However, CAN&I has now received official confirmation that all services have indeed been cut in another blow to Cardiff Airport after so many positive signs of growth over the more recent past.

Someone been taking lessons from WalesOnline?

🙄

No positive spin in that FR serve ALC throughout the winter - so there’s essentially no loss of the main route, besides the drop of a handful of AGP flights.

Not at all. This is just a summary of the main article which paints the wider picture both clearly and accurately and covers the point you have raised concerning other airlines operating the route.

Its not merely a case of "no loss of the main route" or a "drop of a handful of AGP flights" either. Vueling's presence at Cardiff is significant and the matter amounts to a loss of over 1/3 of the airport's capacity to and from Alicante (its most popular destination) over the winter months plus the loss of the only low-cost option to and from Malaga, albeit over a very limited period.

Significant and frustrating at a time where Cardiff Airport is trying to do all it can to secure growth, yet unfortunately its the smaller regional airports that will bear the brunt when airlines are driven to make priority calls under such challenging circumstances.

“We are disappointed that Vueling has taken the decision to withdraw its Cardiff to Alicante service for the winter season. “Alicante remains a popular destination from Cardiff, with TUI and Ryanair continuing to offer direct flights this winter."
😕😞

I would say the writing has been on the wall for a while and they’ve certainly scaled back operations slowly since Covid.
Will they be back in the summer? Possibly, but I’m sure they’ll be looking for a cash incentive. If that were the case a return of BCN flights should be a priority. Of course I’d love to see them resume Alicante and Malaga but perhaps the competition is too much from a regional airport.

It is disappointing but not a surprise sadly. Hopefully they'll return for summer. If not Cardiff is going to have to replace the lost capacity of 5 A320s a week on 2 important routes.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
