New Newquay to Leeds Bradford air route for Spring 2016
![]()
A new air route from Newquay to Leeds-Bradford is expected to start operating next Spring
The Chancellor, George Osborne, announced in last week's Spending Review that 11 successful bidders across the UK had been awarded support from the UK Government's Regional Air Connectivity Fund - including Cornwall Newquay Airport.
The new flights with Flybe will offer fast journey times to Leeds-Bradford.
The new route from Newquay to Leeds-Bradford will take just 85 minutes
Exeter airport will also benefit from an additional route to Norwich.
Aviation Minister Robert Goodwill said: "Newquay and Exeter airports are vital engines for South West's economy, connecting the UK and creating opportunities. That is why the UK Government backs new South West air routes, with our investment benefiting hardworking people across the country."
The start-up aid bidding competition was open to airports with fewer than five million passengers per year and allows air routes that are not currently commercially viable today to be introduced early, giving time for airlines to build passenger numbers and deliver a more sustainable service.
It is anticipated that flights will begin from Spring 2016.
Start-up aid of up to £7 million is being provided through the Regional Air Connectivity Fund. The fund already supports strategic routes to London from Newquay and Dundee.

Newquay route to be introduced from Leeds Bradford Airport
By Alex Turner - Editor
FLIGHTS from Leeds Bradford Airport to Newquay are expected to begin next year after the route was chosen to be supported by the Regional Air Connectivity Fund.
The £7m government fund was open to airports with fewer than 5m passengers per year and is designed to support routes that are not currently commercially viable to be introduced, giving time for airlines to build passenger numbers and deliver a more sustainable service.
The Leeds Bradford-Newquay route will be operated by Flybe. Other routes from the north of England being supported are Newcastle-Norwich and Carlisle services to Belfast, Dublin and Southend.
Aviation minister Robert Goodwill said: "Carlisle, Newcastle and Leeds-Bradford airports are vital engines for the Northern economy, connecting the UK and creating opportunities."
The confirmation of routes followed the announcement by George Osborne in last week's Spending Review that 11 bids had been successful.
Also hearing we should hear something positive about more new routes been possibly announced before xmas.
