Fantastic! Any chance of morning pier shot?

I really want a pier shot on a Mon or Fri with AA, UA, EK, HU and TOM but it would be difficult to get one and make it to work on time. I could grab a weekend one but there would be no Hainan? Unfortunately today the Air Transat A330 parked on the other side.

elmdon74 posted a cracking pier photo a couple of weeks ago with American, United and Hainan amongst others.

Some great shots there - that pier is looking nice and busy.

Something I've always been meaning to ask: Does anyone know why the weekly Air Transat BHX-YYZ route 'exists', as such? Largely holiday goers in the summer season?

Its partly due to summer season tourism, however id put it down to the Birmingham area still having VFR traffic between the UK and Canada and still quite alot of it, especially in the Indian community hence why Air India routed via YYZ a few years ago. Lots of people from India emmigrated to Canada as well as the UK in the 60/70/80s.

And i still cant work it out why MAN keeps getting more increased capacity to Canada and BHX nothing ??

I don't know why BHX has been stuck with a token 1 weekly flight from TS for years, but, MAN gets more flights due to the market being bigger.

This is why TS and AC can co-exist in MAN, and just this week, TS had to run an extra flight to MAN due to higher than expected demand.

I don't know what BHX can do to get more Canadian flights, Transat have said that they can get a cheaper deal at MAN so look unlikely to change any time soon, I'd doubt AC would come to BHX due to Heathrow and MAN down the road.

That leaves Westjet, who serve GLA and soon LGW, so, one would expect a Mid-UK flight soon too (although articles have already said MAN is their preffered point).

Norwegian could be another maybe, but, they don't yet serve Canada, and I can't help think BHX supporters are pinning too many hopes on Norwegian considering they haven't yet announced a BHX base/long haul.

The last hope could be a transit flight, but, I honestly don't see who would be the reliable link when airlines such as Turkmenistan are in that category, who like to chop and change schedules regularly, and it's hard to book a Turkmenistan flight.

Canada is very seasonal these days. Air Transat have already said BHX could do with more capacity but it's only needed in the peak season, end of June to early September and it's not practical for them to schedule an aircraft in that way. It's frustrating as Canadian Affair don't seem to be able to sell the seats fast enough.

If we do see long haul from Norwegian then I'm not convinced that Toronto would be a destination. Maybe if they do a tie up with Canadian Affair selling seats for them then a couple of seasonal flights each week on the MAX could work.

Thanks for the replies folks.

VFR makes a lot of sense, especially with the Indian and Irish communities around Birmingham. Heck, I've got a lot of family in Canada myself - should have thought of that!

Fantastic pictures as usual. If you were the chap on the railway bridge with a deck chair then I walked past you :)
Not me Ray,can`t carry a deckchair on the bus and train

Great picture :hatsoff:

I've had a few early morning walks over the last few weeks and noticed that American seem to use 55L as their regular stand meaning EK41/42 is pushed along one from Emirates usual gate.

I see the two airbridges on Stand 54 are being used separately by American and Air France.

One source on the International Pier gave its capacity as 13 narrow bodied or 7 wide bodied aircraft, but it looks like it can handle a lot more than 13 narrow bodied planes as there are 9 planes on one side in that picture including three 757s*, a 777 and a 767!

*I know the 757 is a narrow bodied plane but it's one of the biggest narrow-bodies there is.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
