It would probably follow the MAN expansion with 789s used when loads high enough.

I’m a Brum local living in Sydney , some one has to do it I suppose , and looking to fly back to BHX in October . QR is cheaper by about $500 per pax on the SYD- DOH- BHX route over EK on the SYD- DXB- BHX , so that in itself may be the reason that QR are getting good loads . EK is consistently more expensive by up to $600 per pax and one reason why if I choose EK I fly into LHR or MAN instead . I’ve flown both carriers many times , I prefer the A380 over the B787 , but everything has a price at the end of the day .

Likewise, as an brummie ( always will be ) and looking to visit in September the same applies from Brisbane, however EK has currently much more flexibility from my destination. In fact, QR’s offering is quite restrictive. The dilemma therefore is the classic efficiency v cost.

Have you considered flying from SYD ? . It may well be worth the extra flight and connection . I’m looking at flying in October , and MH , flying SYD- KUL- LHR can be got for about $1500 rtn . It’s a quick flight too and if cost is a decider, comes out at about $700 cheaper than EK to BHX . I think I’ll be taking the QR flight to BHX at about $1800 rtn .

Flexibility/efficiency is always paramount for me, not necessarily cost. Another factor is that one also has to consider the return journey which adds additional time, inconvenience and greater cost. In fact, it may even entail night stopping because of timing ( connection issues).
By chance, just before I read your note I came across a press release issued by the Australian Govt stating that they have rejected an application by QR to increase flights to all the main designated Australian airports under a bilateral agreement.This is prime example of ripple effect factors which can ultimately affect UK origin/destination trade.

The QR36 out of BHX for DOH connects well in DOH for the onward BNE flight , the only issue is the fact it’s not a daily service , so that may prove problematic .

That's good as i remember in season 1 before Covid they always used to be hovering around the 70/75% mark so 90% is very good ;-)

Anyone got an idea on how the Qatar loads have been since it’s launch in July?

Hopefully they have been encouraging to make them think of getting their Cardiff flights back on sale ASAP to take advantage of the growing market middle eastern airlines are seeing at the moment

QTR will look at the BHX figures in the round - peak and non peak. But I do not see there is necessarily a read across between BHX and CWL, not least because the latter’s catchment is small.

Being honest, Qatar’s interest in Cardiff remains somewhat baffling.

If you look at fares just before Xmas BHX-DOH is £1,719.00

The other option bookable is coach from BHX-MAN and £606.00 !

They don't have the planes to upgrade to a larger one.All the newly delivered B789s and A350s are already assigned to upgrade other routes or newly announced ones.
Also have to remember that Saudia, and the EK A380 will take a slice of the eastward connection passengers.

It depends where you look and on which day. The airline’s website shows 21 December one way BHX-DOH at £588 and MAN-DOH AT £762.
