Yes, just about saw that one peeking through the cloud, couldn't tell what type though so thanks.

Agreed White Heather. The other Saturday I watched a Dublin-bound Ryanair 737 depart RW14 and fly almost back overhead the airfield before setting course westbound. It seemed to be climbing more steeply than usual. Either Scottish Control was varying it's route from the usual Pole Hill SID for separation or, as you suggest, it may have been part of a trial for revised SIDS and STARS. I haven't found any new published SIDS for LBA on the NATS website.

I have noticed more aircraft flying overhead recently. I'm not sure if that's related or just routine sequencing in traffic.

I don't think that is related to the work going on nationally re routes and landing/take off procedures. I too have seen quite a few flights go into the overhead and then hold for a while before landing, even though the airport is relatively quiet at the time. One evening last week the Flybe Dash 8 from Belfast did just that and did 3 or 4 circuits over Bramhope before finally heading all the way back up to Skipton to enter the runway 14 glidepath and land. In all that time, 2 737s landed and the last of these had done so before the Flybe came out of the hold.

My understanding of the revised procedures for landing is that aircraft would have a constant rate of descent straight down on to the runway, without any levelling off at various stages. That avoids powering up engines and so saves fuel and reduces noise.

what is a missed approach please?

also whats the difference between runway 14 and 32?
A missed approach is when an aircraft is on approach to land and for some unplanned reason, it has to abort the landing. For example due to wind shear or as instructed by ATC due to an obstruction on the runway.
As for the runway, well it is the same piece of concrete. Runway 14 is from the Yeadon end towards Horsforth and Leeds and takes its name from 140 degrees on the compass - which is pretty much South East. Runway 32 is the reverse, from the Horsforth end towards Yeadon and takes its name from 320 degrees on the compass - so roughly North West.

RAF aircraft doing circuits at the moment. I don't know my military aircraft but I think it's a Eurofighter Typhoon.

Are you sure it was a fighterjet in the circuit? As we had no military jet aircraft visits at LBA last friday.
I do know one of Nal Jets business jets was seeing operating very low in the circuit though.

Haha thanks LBAspotter you've got me questioning myself now. I couldn't see it very well but I was sure at the time it was an RAF aircraft. Perhaps somebody like "Radar" might know?

I think the Air Europa aircraft is the one that Jet2 is leasing for the summer. My guess is that it will receive appropriate decals and probably Jet2-style seats at LBA then position to Glasgow where I understand it is to be based.

I could be wrong.

Heads up.

There is a very large RAF aircraft booked into visit LBA this evening to do some some training Now Cancelled

It was due to be the first visit to LBA of an RAF Airbus A400, ZM407 which has now gone tech at RAF Brize Norton..

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
