Glasgow: Jet2.com Flights, New Routes & Base Updates

I see Jet2 are due an extra aircraft at Glasgow - one a year for the next 3 years according to the Scotsman. Anyone know if this in addition to the 737-800's already announced? Or are they acquiring another 757?

Interested to know why this aircraft appears to have flown the majority of it's journey at just 24,000 feet and taken nearly 5 hours. Technical issues?

That's weird... the 5 hours is due to the lower groundspeed, I wonder weather there was something on MEL that only allowed it up to 24K, it's done 4 flights since, all at normal cruise levels and flew down there at a normal level too. Weird, that's for sure.

A pressurisation problem would normally mean the aircraft would need to either descend to or fly at around 10,000 ft, so 24,000 ft seems on the high side for it to be the cause. Unless there was another tech issue, it could be that 24,000 ft was the only height air traffic could permit for whatever reason. Maybe one of our budding pilots surfing the forum could explain more?

I'm not a pilot nor technically competent but in the late 1990s I flew with Northwest Airlines (now part of Delta Air Lines) between Denver and Detroit in the USA on an Airbus A 320 and we did not climb above 24,000 feet on that trip that took somewhere between two and three hours from memory.

The captain explained that it was to avoid extremely unpleasant weather at higher levels.

Noticed last night's flight again took best part of five hours return (outward just over 4), loads of nasty weather over the north-west continent of Europe - guess it's down to very strong headwinds as LS124 flew at 38000 feet.

I think Jet2 have suspended all KEF flights. So this will have more than likely being a charter.
