That's great news for Edinburgh. Do you think it will lead to more connecting flights through Edinburgh by passengers wanting to avoid the scrum in US immigration? If so what flights would likely benefit the most? I know Dublin has become quite popular with Yorkshire passengers choosing to avoid the larger airport options so hopefully Edinburgh may benefit in a similar way.

I would expect EDI to push hard and try to persuade DL and UA to go year round in some form with the ORD, IAD and ATL routes. I’m led to believe that the Atlanta route, re-starting soon is going to perform very strongly. With regards to new routes as a result of pre-clearance, I wouldn’t be surprised to see American - DFW being a strong possibility or the return of Philadelphia. JetBlue is another obvious and much rumoured target.

March 2023

Some stats and approx load factors for certain routes. 1,009,599 pax total in March.

Qatar - Doha 19,318 or 94%
TK - Istanbul 8,971 or 90%
UA - Newark 9,539 or 95%
DL - JFK 8,250 or 93%

Qatar still performing very strongly. The American routes doing well also following a quiet (ish) February. TK also up.

Some stats for other European routes.

Copenhagen - 14,474. Norwegian going double daily three time per week will boost this more.
Helsinki - 3,027. Finnair and route boosted by using A321 on certain rotations.
Paris CDG - AF and EZY - 32,476. Well up on last year.
Dublin - 58,535 up 33%
Cork - 14,246. Up 209%
Stockholm - 4,133 up 664% Scandinavian and Norwegian this summer should boost this further.
Amsterdam - 42,155 up 31% despite KLM cutting some night stoppers.
Oslo - 9,032 up 97%

EDI has 11 Long haul flights today
2 Doha
2 Canada
7 USA

and the summer just begun
Big test for the airport and its infrastructure. Busiest day ever for wide-body arrivals/departures. Unfortunately, United’s 764 to from/to Washington is cancelled. Went tech early yesterday evening. Lots of inbound delays from the US due to weather. The terminal will be bursting at the seams.

W23 ACL

The initial W23 ACL, which is due to be published in full next week indicates increased request for slots or international route activity. Strong indications that Emirates may return in spring 2024. The airport is also actively engaging with Etihad about a second attempt on the Abu Dhabi route. American is expected to confirm their intention to resume PHL. Another “new” US destination as well. I wonder where to? 🤔😉

What about a new terminal?
I will be using the airport on the 20th June to ZRH
I am not looking forward to that.

Question for every one.

Do you have any advise about using the trains in Switzerland

Surely none of these will start this coming winter (ie October)? Presumably, if any start it'll be summer 24, hence the W23 slot report will be irrelevant in terms of flights to the destinations you mention.

I flew to Basle last year and took the train to ZRH. £40 return and easy to book.
I'm afraid that's my only experience of trains in Switzerland.

W23 Slots

Some interesting request. As always, not guaranteed that all will actually operate.

Hainan - request to operate in W23
Emirates - slots for daily service requested
United - increase in seats. Extension to something?
BA - large increase in seats on LHR route.
Eurowings - large increase in seats.
Wizz - large cut in seats. One or two routes suspended or dropped?

American Carriers

The summer rush appears to have started. All UA and DL services this evening to EDI is close to completely sold out. UA using an 763 on the Washington route. All outbound from EDI tomorrow is very solidly booked.
VS service to MCO today was completely full. 397 onboard. Who said Virgin couldn’t fill a high density 351 from EDI!

Quite a lot of long delays for stands recently. For example, yesterday's UA161 waited for over an hour on the taxiway before it could park. What plans does the airport have to increase stand capacity?

The latest management report details current and future expenditure and plans. Terminal expansion is on the agenda. Phased and expected to be complete by 2030. It’s only £77m however. This amount won’t buy very much. I suspect they may add separate walkways for int pax arriving and heading to immigration. This should free up access to all gates for departing pax. A contact told me they have plans to add some more air bridges to existing pier past gate 19. This would create more gates capable of taking wide-body aircraft. No question this is needed, particularly in summer months.

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
