I must admit i will be really dissapointed if LBA just gets a terminal extension to the existing non green building, it will serve no purpose at all, before long wont be able to cope with the extra millions of passengers and i cant see any new airlines wanting to start ops, thats my thoughts.
We will all be disappointed but to say the extension will serve no purpose at all is very disingenuous. It serves to facilitate many more pax though the building whilst also improving the customer experience. Therefore it will serve a good purpose.
But the airport will just keep its same old bad stigma, one stigma is that its known for bits stuck onto the old building!
The airport needs and has to have a completely new terminal to move forwards or else once again we will just be in the same position, ok yes we might attract more pax with current airlines using LBA adding additional flights but also providing we have apron space available. Im sorry but adding bits onto the existing terminal is not acceptable for yorkshires so called prem airport.
The only person that goes on about the stigma, day in day out, is you. Have you been up at LBA recently or pre pandemic? They were digging many different holes in the short stay car park. It is a new part of the terminal and looking at the plans to provide a decent appearance in terms of where the current entrance/exits are as well as extending that. I also think they'll improve some of the terminal building that will be hidden within the plans. So my question to you is with an improved customer experience to hopefully a high standard as @Easy189 as said, how will we be in the same position? Remember the carbon free or other terminal waiting on Gove does nothing to address stands and therefore overnight parked aircraft.
I agree it's turning a farce. But at least we've got a back up. Approved and in the bag back up which has ground works done. It's not all that bad.
