Planning Application for the new petrol Station next to the airport has appeared on the Leeds City Council website. It looks to be situated opposite the Hawthorne Farm pub just after the tunnel exit.

And here's the associated documents. http://plandocs.leeds.gov.uk/WAM/showCaseFile.do?appName=planning&appNumber=16/00291/OT

That's funny. According to the sooper dooper Masterplan, this site is earmarked for car parking.

Plans for 24-hour petrol station close to Leeds Bradford Airport

The proposed scheme would also include a store selling groceries, toiletries, newspapers and magazines, as well as motor-related items.

There is a lack of external facilities at LBA. Nearly all the food and drink outlets are situated in the airside part of the airport so there's little available for meeters and greeters.

The application says the nearest filling stations to the site are not suitable for HGVs, and it claims this is something that will be important for anticipated employment, as well as freight and logistics businesses.

Makes sense to have suitable facilities for heavy goods vehicles. Notedly, Bibby the main heavy goods company situated on the Yeadon Airport Industrial Estate is apparently relocating nearer to the motorway in Wakefield.

They were recruiting for Warehouse managers etc, that's what it said in the email I got!

I wonder if they're going to use it to hold; Catering, Baggage, Maintenance Equipments etc.

So, in other words, right where a taxiway would go if one were built? I thought we had moved away from this short sighted nonsense. I agree that the local area does need something like this in order to improve facilities for businesses but at the expense of future expansion for the airport?

Look at the Masterplan Whoshotjimmi. They are planning to create another, longer link from the runway on to the existing loop so that aircraft can vacate the runway almost as soon as they have crossed the road bridge. They are not intending to build a parallel taxiway all the way from the apron as this would require another tunnel for the road. The plans shows not only the petrol station, but also airport parking along the road, and the extended loop above it.

At the other end they are planning a taxiway linking the current North/South taxiway (not sure of its official name now), to the main runway, but not going right to the end, the intention again being that aircraft will be on the main runway for only a short time. Neither are likely to happen in the shorter term and more likely during the next decade.

Hoardings have gone up for a development on the plot over the entrance road from Hawthorn farm.

Any ideas what’s getting built?

We on about version 5 now so its anyone's guess. I'm sure planning applications went in for more offices, then a petrol station or a hotel. Hopefully it's a hotel and something better than Travelodge.

Is it Starbucks that are opening a cafe on Warren House Lane (behind Hawthorne Farm?)

I drove past yesterday and building is taking shape. If the top floor is to be used it will give an awesome view across the entire airfield.

I believe there’s two buildings. One of which features what looks to be a drive through and purple cladding. Could this mean Costa?

Fingers crossed the top floor will be used. It will be a spotters
It's a Costa drive-thru.
I will keep tabs on the 2 storey building. I understood this was going to be for the drive through but I could be wrong.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
