Someone on another forum has mentioned that the upper deck airbridge for the A380 on stand 12 has been out of use for over a week…boarding can only be done via the single airbridge on the lower deck…can anyone shed any light?
They answered it’s for scheduled maintenance 👋

Just wondered if anyone here can answer a question for me.
Why is it that there is a difference between the number of seats sold and the passengers numbers. The head of the routes team just published figures saying they have 23.6 million seats on sale but we all know its probably going to go over 30 million passengers. So how exactly does it work, how is that figure calculated.
Sorry if this question has been asked and answered previously.

Good morning

I think the difference is possibly because the 23.6m is for Summer 24, compared with 30+ for the whole year?

As you are probably aware there is a limit for the amount of attachments that anybody, including moderators, can post. Regrettably it would seem that I have well and truly exceeded my entitlement and therefore, and therefore I will need to delete a large number of the images - these will include old MANTP and NOTAM/OAN items.
Aviador is working on a resolution to enable me to continue to post airport statistics - without using a screenshot.
Thank you for your understanding because it does cost the Forum a lot to support images as they use large amounts of data.

Reading through my X (Twitter) feed and notice a comment on a post from the reliable SPD__travels stating the following:
"T1 and T3 have an announcement pending".

Interesting comment and I look forward to the announcement.
My thought is that MAG will announce T1 & T3 will be combined into one single terminal once the T2 TP is completed (and all of it known as T1 maybe?) and hopefully refurbished...with Pier B refurbished and accessed from today's T3 southern front gates.
I think this bit makes sense, given the fact you can access Pier B from T3 today quite quickly via the southern front gates...but my question is can you access Pier B from T3 without going into the T1 departure area? From the outside it looks like it?
Who knows...maybe we will see travellators installed in the area of the southern front gates to move people quicker between leaving the eventual new security area (in T3) and the F&B outlets (in T1).
As for Pier C...who knows, but this will be a trek if it's going to remain part of T1/T3.
The main departure area in T1 where the F&B outlets are today is acceptable in my opinion, fairly modern, plenty of choice, light and airy...would be a shame to not use this big space for a future single terminal.

Any thoughts?

No you can’t access the pier b gates from

you can't atm as that connecting corridor between those T3 gates and the T1 departure area was closed last year - having been open fore most of covid. unless there is some re-modeling which is done you would always need to go along that corridor in to the T1 departure area in order to get to any T1 gates - including those on pier b. you can't get to pier b directly from those T3 gates.

Thanks for the info...I wasn't aware this corridor had since been closed.

During 2020 I was travelling on business whilst in the height of covid and only T1 was open, we were on a BA flight to LHR and our gate was 35...when I arrived it was at the southern front gate area with the aircraft parked on stand 1, which we boarded via stairs directly from the southern front area without the need to go into pier B...maybe some alternations could be made going forward to allow this to happen...

Simon Calder of the Independent was at MAN yesterday in discussion with the MD. Ryanair is to be the sole user of T3 when all the upgrades have been done and apparently MAN and LHR don't have a catchment overlap (bar 6 houses that are equidistant) but relishes that challenge of having LBA, LPL and BHX nearby all competing on short-haul. Apparently the catchment is 22 million within 2 hour drive. Did "route drop" Bangkok but not sure why it was MAN v CPH v MXP as Thai already does CPH and is starting MXP so perhaps it's Air Asia that is going to be deciding where to serve first,

The planning application for the T3 new security area was approved in September, since then it’s gone very quiet considering the new equipment needs to be installed by June.

I was thinking, with the lounge in T1 closing next year when the airlines transfer to T2, would it be feasible to place the new security area in this part of T1? Like a half way point between T1 & T3…I know this would delay the introduction of the new security equipment, but just a thought…otherwise maybe the planning for the approved area is ongoing, but like I said since September this is almost silent…

I seem to recall that the new security area as planned was going to cost two aircraft stands on T3. Given the need for more stand capacity on the airfield - especially with respect to T3 - a little patience might be well worthwhile. There has to be an alternative solution with a massive closed T1 hulk on hand which does not involve sacrificing two stands.

Anyone know what’s happening on level one 13 of the T1 MSCP?
The car park is empty and there are barriers preventing you from going down one level (to 12). I notice new lighting has been installed along the side walls of the car park and an area in the centre cornered off for something…looks strange with no cars but there are quite a few potholes that need sorting!

Im no expert with planning, but looking at the available online documents for this on the councils website and the application appears to have been withdrawn in January.

Ah thanks for the info…I had a suspicion something was going on given the radio silence for a few months…and as a reliable source on X (SPD_travels) stated a few weeks ago, there is a pending announcement ref T1/T3 in general, so hopefully we will hear something from the airport soon…

Another forum (!) also had someone say it had been cancelled.

Last I heard the intention was to remove the control tower block but retain the southern front extensions. Perhaps it will end up there in a merged facility combo.

What is the other tower block (black) next to the old control tower?
Is this still used?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
