LBA ranked the 8th best uk airport! Excellent news! Something for the local media to report on, oh wait on a min its not negative so wont be reported!
Or if they do it will be with a negative undertone.

Am I right in thinking we have gone up in the league compared with last years Which? survey?

And where did DSA sit in the survey? It should apparently have been top based on how good it was supposed to be. But wait......it doesn't actually function as an airport any longer because not enough pax used it. Easy distribution list for the survey though. As you can tell, in one of my sarcastic moods today

Sitting in departures with a coffee just 20mins after check in. Security a breeze, they have obviously had "charm" training as everyone is friendly and helpful.
This is why we are the 8th best haha not bad for a 1960s not fit for purpose terminal!
Going back to the best airports ranking list, im betting liverpool has done best simply because they have passenger figures similar to LBAs but operate from a modern spacious terminal, a bright airy terminal always creates a more pleasant environment.

I’ve used quite a few of these, and LBA excluding the arrivals experience is far better than some above us, including arrivals it is about right in the list. Obviously, it is subjective and averaged out across participants, but For me personally, and no offence to any LPL locals, I haven’t had a great experience there once. EMA is also underwhelming, but Southampton was great and Teesside was great, but both are a lot quieter than most on the list. Of the busier airports, I actually thought BHX was pretty good. For LBA, with up coming developments, things should hopefully improve.

No surprise to see MAN down the bottom. My experiences there, and those of family members, have been really poor. I'd rather not fly than go from there.
With family in Singapore Manchester is the best option for us flying non stop. The best thing about flying from there is when we are seated on Singapore Airlines waiting for the push off. As for the terminal, well best say nothing as I'd be banned from here. Well done LBA, with the new terminal extension in a couple of years time we should see ourselves further up the table.

Well, back to LBA yesterday..Ryanair flight, excellent again, with cabin crew who would give Jet2`s a run for their money. Honestly. The Max was underwhelming, for me anyway and nowhere near as quiet as the A320 Neo. We landed behind 4/5 others and had to wait for the buses..Perhaps a quick explanation from the flight deck would have helped...LBA staff did their best, especially on arriving at the entry steps to find the escalator out of action and a queue for the only lift but staff were managing it. Border Force excellent, every desk staffed, very friendly.Maybe, like Liverpool, LBA could put 1 staff on directing people to the desks which does make things go easier.

The baggage hall is what it is, but a small observation..forgive me if I missed it but it would benefit from a screen directing you to the correct carousel for your flight. Instead you had people wandering up and down creating pinch points looking where to go. Wouldnt cost much if they don`t already have it.

All told...From on stand through processes, in about 35 mins..So although it might appear disjointed and awkward the reality is that it manages what it does very well indeed. Looking forward to January now..

So here’s my review, departing to Alicante on Ryanair 5pm Saturday 09/09.

We pre booked wheel chair assistance, this was a perfectly acceptable experience, staff was pleasant and faultless. Security for regular pax was about 20 mins, still ok.

Negatives: terminal was absolutely packed, disgraceful if I’m honest. The temperature was boiling on Saturday so you can imagine the terminal and how hot it was. I looked and some air con units was not on? Broken? If so obviously need fixing. There was temp air con blowers (blowing out warm arm scattered in the terminal) not much help.

Went to the saltaire eatery, with no seats available, luckily managed to squeeze 5 of us on a table of 2. No lemonade? How this is possible to under order it in? No glasses £7 for pints in a plastic cup. Because they ran out (apparently) but when people refused they quick magiced up some glasses..

Boots self service now, with 3 staff members stood there helping the 3 tills? Couldn’t make it up.

World duty free now all self service. This was a disgrace. 2 staff members unnecessarily and unacceptably slow on assisting literally everyone at the till because everyone bought alcohol and they had to be ID’d and bagged up.

All in all a really stressful and the worst experience I’ve had at LBA. This extension can’t come quick enough.

Was the wheelchair assistance from the free drop- off area?

Regarding them running out of lemonade, this was probably because of increased demand due to the hot weather. Same thing happens at supermarkets, empty shelves where the fizzy drinks should be!
Not the airports fault though. They dont order lemonade! All these shops and bars are independent of LBA other than paying rent to trade in the terminal, and in charge of their own business . Sadly, their decisions apparently reflect on LBA rather than in themselves.

Yes it’s where the airport meet and greet is. Free service

It’s from a hose. How can you run out of lemonade? Order in, be proactive, not the first time there’s ever been a hot week in Leeds. Like heather said, it all reflects bad on the airport.

I have had the pleasure of seeing the cellar where the drinks are stored in the airport basement, You wouldn't believe how much passengers go through, it's remarkable. Something that's also unbelievable are the alcohol lines from the cellar to the taps. The beer lines literally stretch the length of half the terminal in some cases. That assuming nothing has changed since I was there.

I totally despise self service tills, wherever they might be. I really don't believe they are the future. It's a case of one company uses them so others feel that they are missing out on technology changes and feel they have to copy. It's not the airports fault but like you many people will only view the overall experience.

I have to say though, I have seen the airport when it is extremely busy and I agree the terminal work can't come soon enough. Having air conditioning that works for example will help to make the whole experience so much better.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
