Out of interest what are we all going to do with our photos and LBA ephemera in order to pass them on to future generations. Donate to a museum?
How about make a mini lba museum somewhere near the airport?
Don't we already have one, the terminal! Maybe we could hang up all our memorabilia.
I appreciate the desire for people to want their photos/memorabilia to be available to future generations, but I see some problems. If an airport were to accept such donations from an individual, how would they be displayed? The individual could donate several thousand images (especially since the dawn of digital photography - it's not unusual for me to come back from air shows at Duxford with nearly 1000 shots). I doubt that all would be worthy of display. Those that were, would probably need printing (to a size worth displaying) and framing. Who funds that? And, that's from just one donator.
Even if an airport were to display a number of donated photos, it's unlikely they would want to display them permanently (limited space), but rather rotate the displays with other donators and even artists who's work is not aviation related.
To make a museum close to an airport would be extremely expensive (rent of building, staff wages, utility bills etc), but how much of an appetite is there from the general public for such a facility?
The only way that I see, would be to donate to an airport, but don't expect all photos/memorabilia to be displayed.

The memorabilia is irreplaceable, as are the photos and I would like to think rather than my heirs just taking it all to the tip, that it's preserved somewhere. It might not be on show but just archived.

I have many photos which i actually purchased from the air supply shop in yeadon which are now stored away, so not taken by myself. Does anyone know who took these pics or was it just ken himself, the pics are decent quality with some real beauty airlines/aircrafts!
Also during euro96 i myself snapped some not so good but still ok fotos (was only 15 at the time with a cheap camera) but managed to film all the visitors during that amazing weekend.

I have no doubt that your memorabilia and photos are irreplaceable. As such, donation to a library or aviation museum would probably be best. Hopefully, some would see the light of day now and again.

My question was intended to find out what others are doing and where exactly takes donations.

Is this something you are able to share?
I was a huge football fan and closeted plane nerd back then (abuse from my friends lol!), and made the regrettable choice to watch the football - not thinking about the influx to LBA that day.
I have seen some footage on YouTube, which included the coincidental visit of Concorde.
Remember the DC-10 seemed to come in very quickly and really take some stopping

I have a full days footage starting with the AOM DC10 all the way through to the departures. It’s still on VHS!

Im actually away from the property where all the photos are located, but over the next week or so i will dig them out and post on here, there not the best pics but its still nice to view them.
That particular weekend i was stood at the tunnel view point from when the first arrival of the day the AOM dc10 landed, then later in the afternoon a mate of mine arrived with his tent and we camped overnight on plain tree hill!
During that evening it was fantastic seeing the endless iberia, aviaco jets and all the others depart, plus of course we had a late night dc10 and from memory a b737 land too. So that saturday throughout the day we had on the apron 2 dc10s, b747sp, A300s, concorde and all the narrow body jet (b757, md83s)
To think i camped overnight on plaintree hill, the things you do when young haha

Picking up from the General thread regarding number of aircraft overnighting at LBA. I can remember during winter, in the very late 60's, Saturday had 2 flights to LHR and 1 each to BFS and DUB. Sunday just had 2 flights to LHR.
Nowadays, people get bored if there is not 4 flights per hour.

Remember the days when traffic was so sparse they could hold the airshow at LBA? I can recall attending and the show being halted for a few minutes to allow a scheduled Viscount service to take off after which the flying display re-started. Imagine doing that now!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
