Looks like the eastern leg of HS2 between birmingham and leeds is to be scrapped, surprise surprise! Now can we have a decent airport instead! Heard rumours that in return leeds may get its long awaited supertram, but then again i might of been dreaming!
Once again leeds is missing out even though its the largest economic region outside london, the 3rd largest stand alone city and to note is actually seeing the 2nd largest office uptake in the uk, crazy!

TO many NIMBYS for the tram to become something @LBA4EVER tbh.
We need the trams big time, the city is just gridlocked from mid aft till early eve mainly due to years of neglect and any apparent improvements they undertake just make things worse! (eg horsforth rb, armley rd/ledgard way, i can go on) You can see many places where the old tram lines used to be so many of these locations have space for new track although mass construction would still be required.

A new housing estate is going to be built around the roundabout of Rawdon Road and the Ring Road that will help the pathetic traffic flow since the upgrade and traffic light system someone designed came into use.
I am happy if HS2 does not happen, its not needed, so why not support flights to Heathrow instead and as for a Conservative Government not funding a Labour controlled area of the country it is hardly surprising.
They only support the other side of the hill as they are frightened of Andy Burnham.

There is a new housing estate just down from the horsforth roundabout, is that the one you mean? Can you imagine trying to do a right turn out of there onto the ring rd!! It often creates a backlog which then clogs up the pathetic rodley and horsforth roundabouts! The whole city road network is just a mess, its just the same in many areas on the east and south sides too, not just the lba side

@LBA4EVER you use a bit of common sense if you live at that estate. You enter at the bottom, and leave at the top, round the roundabout and back down if heading towards that way. If I was heading to Bradford I'd probably leave at the top, and go up A65 and into Appearly Bridge.. Just don't try leave between 4 and 6 pm. It really doesn't matter and wouldn't hurt me to live there anyway. It's a lovley estate so near to all the countryside and canals. Proper little community.

It's a shame the local bus company doesn't want anything to do with it. I know the company doing the airport buses (Transdev is it?!) would make a killing if they did a service between Leeds and the estate. There is no train station locally neither. By time you've commuted there may as well drive to Leeds.

I could live with us not getting HS2 if the whole thing was dumped, but what I cannot accept is that once again, b****y Manchester gets it when Leeds, and Sheffield, (both bigger cities than Manchester by population), and West Yorkshire (equivalent to Greater Manchester) get nothing except more trains running along old track routes. So yet again, the NW is favoured and the NE is left out. Not my idea of levelling up, but it seems that levelling up only applies to Manchester.

And it appears also that HS3, the new line linking East and West of the Pennines, and which was supposed to provide a decent link for Bradford, is also to be canned, with so called improvements to the existing track. Well, unless they add two more lines for fast trains to pass slow ones, (which they won't as there isn't the room to do it),;they are wasting their time and just pulling the wool over everyone's eyes.

Promises, promises. Who would ever trust a politician to do as they say?

Spot on WH, fully agree with you 100%

The legislation is there to ensure drones aren't flown in areas which present a hazard to navigation but like a lot of these thi

Totally agree, to the government North= Manchester.

Money never seems a problem for our southern friends does it. Cross rail will cost £20bn+ if the figures are to be believed but benefits something like less than 10% of the population. Pound for pound HS2 deliveries maximum benefit to millions of people not just the select few.

Always the poor relation with diluted schemes, infrastructure changes and cancellations.

Boris has had us all for a fool and the backlash at the ballot box from northerners and even those feeling neglected in the south (for what reason I don’t know) will mean for a tight call at the next election. If labour had a decent leader they’d be winning now.

I just feel so let down by failed promises and with the terminal decision due soon it would take a brave person to say no, no, no. Maybe he is all blah, blah, blah!!

The south is just not London and the South East. The peripheral region of the South West - five million population - doesn't even have electrified railways with none in the pipeline either.

But don't worry TLY. We are moving away from dangerous diesel towards Electric. Its the way forward. According to every single hypocrite that gathered in Glasgow.

Sorry Local Yokel, I appreciate the south west gets a raw deal too. I should have been more specific in London centric and Home Counties as my reference

I’m not too miffed about the Eastern leg of HS2, other than the message it sends to our part of the North. The abandonment of the proposed new Trans-Pennine route is a different matter. That is sorely needed but all we’re going to get is “improvements”. It’s a deliberate kick in the teeth double whammy for this region.

I see Shapps has cancelled everything in the Yorkshire region regarding railways. Time for total reform and to take control back from these clueless tossers in Parliament. Yorkshire party here I come.
Well it seems HS2 trains will continue up the existing tracks from East Midlands Parkway, to Sheffield. They will 'look into' how to extend them up to Leeds. Yeah, right!! So Sheffield actually benefits more than Leeds. Manchester gets everything as usual and Leeds, and particularly Bradford, gets scraps at best.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
