Empire / Jonathan / Aviador,
Original post edited to reflect the error on my part. I was caught out by the appearance of a very similar looking A310 performing an unusual approach!

Looks like it was taken from "the pan" Galaxy. Whats the path like at the moment Jonathan leading down to "the pan"?

The path is barely passable but Jonathan's picture looks like it was taken airside. Great shot whichever.

the picture was taken at the pan, the path is ok it has been cut back alot, muddy in a few places

Hi

Good news first, Following the volcanic activity PIA have now comfirmed that they are to operate Boeing 777-300's on the twice weekly PK775/776 service.

The bad news to report is that they will have to operate the Boeing 777-300, flights into Manchester and not Leeds/Bradford due to the runway limitations. Efforts were made to secure a Boeing 777-200 operation into LBA which could have operated off runway 32/14 but this option has not been taken up for some reason

So the next Airbus 310 operation planned into Leeds will now not be until at least Wednesday May 12th.

Not good news at all there. This could end the relationship between PIA and LBA. Sounds like PIA are treating LBA like Thomson does!

Time for LBA management to find another airline to do this route I am afraid and yes, it does appear the love affair may be over, not helped I am sure by the flak PIA have been getting from Leeds Council over the A310's late departures exceeding noise limits, the latest of which occured only on Thursday morning.

There is a consultative meetingn on Thursday, so I will ask about this if they don't volunteer the information.

If PIA had have wanted then they could have operated a 772 or 747 on the LBA route for the next couple of weeks. Like you say White Heather it sounds as though things may well be coming to end for PIA and LBA.

Sorry, I meant 12th. Having read the post again, I assume that 777/3 operations are scheduled until then- but into MAN, and thereafter will revert to A310's into LBA.

I think people are reading too much into the PIA decision to work from Manchester for the meantime. At the end of the day they need to repatriate passengers back to the UK and if using the 777-300 is the easiest way to do that then so be it. Over this weekend Jet2 have operated several flights on behalf of both Thomas Cook and Thomson bringing passengers back to the UK who were supposed to fly into Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Cardiff and even London Gatwick. At the end of the day bringing them back to Leeds and busing them to their onward destination has been the option selected by their tour company. Not ideal but under the circumstances it's better than the alternative of having them sprawled across Europe and the globe waiting for the next available flight.

We know that the Boeing 777-200 series has a good performance from short runways and this is the type that PIA need to use in the short to medium term if they are to continue to operate flights into LBA. Hopefully recent events with the council wont put them off. On a final note remembering previous instances with Shaheen, the A310 is banned from flying through night at Manchester as well.

I think they also use this type from Glasgow to Lahore ( A300 ). So would that mean two routes lost ?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
