Forgive me, if this seems an simple question but,

Are the `tech` issues along with age of their current A310's the reason why they are looking at bringing in the B777, or is it due to higher demand for that region to/from Yorkshire?

(with recent load factors, numbers under 70 pax have not been a rarity)

The main reason is because of the age of the A310. The passenger numbers will pick up again I'm sure. It's a funny old route, but I seem to remember the Swefly having a similar dip in passenger numbers during Eid.

Today's A330 flight by Monarch Airlines will have been a invaluable test for the airport if PIA do decide to use the Boeing 777 in October and presumably the marshaller on the turning D is a temporary resolve for the Boeing 777 as well.

Thats shocking...i didnt realise they were actually that old, some nearing 20 years old. They must have collected a huge amount of flying time over the years and with the different operators. No wonder they are not deemed safe any longer and continue to experience major `tech` issues.

Im sure PIA, if not allready would of been interested in how the Airbus was handled today, how it performed on the runway and taxiways etc, along with fitment onto stand. I do belive the B777 is slightly larger though, to those dimensions experienced today with the 330.

The Marshaller was needed at the `turning D` due to poor visibility from the cockpit with regard to the captains nose wheel, bearing in mind the maximum turn angle of 70 degree's for this particular model. There were no problems for takeoff, as the 14 loop was used. If something similar or indeed the well-needed parrallel taxiway was built, this issue would be resolved straight away.

Yes the A310's are getting on abit but by no means some of the oldest things flying. KLM operates aircraft nearly as old 733 & FK100 with the oldest 747-400 not far behind.

Dont forget the old Ryanair 732's, well over 20 years old with ex Lufty, Britannia & DanAir examples.

Thing is, if you follow guidelines and maintain aircraft well they are perfectly safe to fly over 20 years. Its cutting corners that makes them unsafe!

Try Youtube for air crash investigations, look at the China Airlines 747-200 explosion in flight and Aloha cases. You may find them a very interesting watch.

I just read on another thread that PIA will be changing the equipment on the MAN-ISB route from the 777 to the A310 in october that could be good news in that they may transfer the 777 to lba

Cant see that happening but it would be great. Are we ever going to get this 777?, I don't think it will happen, I think they did originally have plans but have changed them, might be wrong.

The A310 has made a regular visit to MAN in recent Months and this is down to lower loads, alot of people that used the Manchester flight now use the LBA service. So it would come as no suprise if indeed the A310 will become Sched on the Manchester rotation.

I believe PIA will be holding a trial sometime in October of the 777 into Leeds so look out for that. One of the issues is the turning halfmoon circle at 32 threshold. Time will tell, but at the end of the day the 747 operated fine out of Leeds so it is more than possible for PIA to put the 777 into Leeds on a regular basis.

Bad news PIA have cancelled their flights on sat 19th and mon 21st september due to low load they have also cancelled flights from manchester glasgow and heathrow for that same weekend it is the weekend when eid is so that could be the reason

No difference to other airlines cancelling flights over Christmas. I heard the same as WYIA in that PIA are looking at bringing the 777 in during October. Lets hope so!

They did the same last year at Eid.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
