I wasn't sure. I think they are going to Chambery which feeds the same area as Grenoble in terms of mountains/alps and ski resorts.

83 weekly flights from one airport is pretty impressive. I wonder how that compares to MAN/LGW. LHR I discount as the GVA route carries business.
I would guess that LGW and MAN did better in the pre-pandemic years but BRS which outperforms generally given its core catchment size and small site has been stellar in its ski routes programme for many years. It does serve a wealthy area and also attracts substantially from the far South West and from South Wales where the ski routes from EXT/NQY/CWL are minimal in number, as well as from the (mainly) western end of the Thames Valley.

CAA stats show that in 2014 and 2015 BRS's annual passenger numbers on the Geneva route were beaten in the UK only by Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton. In the last full pre-pandemic year (2019) MAN had overtaken BRS in the annual Geneva passengers numbers but the only other UK airports to handle more on the route were still only LHR, LGW and LTN. This is one example of this small airport's outperformance.

Anyway, back to Ryanair, they once operated to Salzburg from BRS in the ski season but gave it up many years ago leaving it to easyJet and charter carriers, and now Jet2 as well.

Extra frequencies being added to several polish destinations and cologne for next summer
Is that on the app? The web booking engine is showing no increases for any of these routes for summer 22. In fact, Modlin which is 4 x weekly this winter and used to be 3/4 x weekly in summer, is currently shown as 2 x weekly in summer 22.

Yes on the app
The extra frequencies are now showing on the web booking engine.

Ibiza and chania now on sale for 2022 summer. Ibiza increases to 4 weekly whilst chania reduces to 1 weekly. Only Seville not on sale

Ibiza is still in the booking engine dropdown but no flights are shown for s 22. Perhaps it's because the frequency is being altered. I believe that this sort of thing has happened before with Ryanair.

As for Seville, in summer 20 it was due to be 5 x weekly (3 with easyJet and 2 with Ryanair). If Ryanair doesn't operate there will be none as easyJet appears to have pulled out.

We've had this sort of thing before with easyJet and Ryanair competing on a route then both pulling out. Milan Malpensa is a good example. After easyJet and Ryanair withdrew It was left unserved for a few years other than by bmiregional. Then easyJet and Ryanair both returned and currently are still shown as operating to MXP.

There is a number of route reductions for April and May 2022 with Tenerife , Las Palmas , girona and Venice all reducing by one weekly frequency.

Lots of changes for the rest of this month from the end of this week.

The following routes have been suspended until the first week in February:

Vienna, Cologne, Knock, Bergamo, Milan Malpensa, Turin, Treviso, Riga, Kaunas, Poznan, Gdansk, Rzeszow, Wroclaw, Faro, Seville, Valencia.

The following will still operate but some with reductions:

Sofia
Grenoble
Budapest - 2 x weekly in January then 4 x weekly in February
Krakow - 3 x weekly in January then 4 x weekly in February
Warsaw Modlin - 2 x weekly in January then 4 x weekly in February
Bucharest
Alicante - 2 x weekly in January then 5 x weekly in February
Barcelona - 2 x weekly in January then 3 x weekly in February
Las Palmas
Arrecife - 2 x weekly in January then 4 x weekly in February
Madrid - 2 x weekly in January then 3 x weekly in February
Malaga - 3 x weekly in January then 6 x weekly in February
Tenerife South - 2 x weekly in January then 3 x weekly in February
Dublin - 9 x weekly in January then 19 x weekly in February

No doubt the progress of the pandemic will determine whether February will return to the above frequencies.

So Ryanair join easyJet on the Seville route , then easyJet give it up and now Ryanair choose not to continue leaving no one on the route.

Seville is one of those routes that seem to come and go. Ryanair first tried it in 2009 before axing it after a couple of years. easyJet and then Ryanair tried it again, at one time in tandem, and now they are both gone or will be soon.

I don't know to what degree the Airbus connection at both ends of the route is needed to make it work.

The same applies with Hamburg (which also has Imperial Brands Plc at both ends). easyJet operated to HAM in 2005-2006 but presumably that didn't cut the mustard, after which bmiregional/Flybmi took it on for several years but since the airline was wound up nearly three years ago HAM has remained unserved. At one point in the 'noughties' there was an Airbus inhouse service to Hamburg and Bremen operated by OLT that was switched from FZO (Filton) to BRS to try to pick up some commercial revenue.

I don't think the Airbus shuttle to Toulouse has restarted so it might be that currently there is not the staff movement between Airbus centres which would not be surprising given the mayhem to business life that the pandemic has brought about. With TLS there is always the option of taking seats on easyJet which is currently due to return to a daily service in April.

So the above potted history regarding Airbus connectivity suggests that this company's staff and related passenger traffic might play a part with these routes. When post-pandemic life returns there might be movement again with the Seville route.

Further to my previous post, the DP states that the Seville Ryanair base is being reduced to four aircraft from this summer with routes to Bristol, Budapest and Karlsruhe axed. The route to Bristol is currently operated by Seville-based aircraft.

A great breakdown, Severn. Many thanks.

Ryanair had certainly stagnated at BRS during the summer in the years before the pandemic, albeit most years the odd destination would go to be replaced by another.

The winter years leading to the pandemic were a different kettle of fish.

In 2015-2016 there were 55 weekly rotations to 15 destinations which had grown in 2019-2020 to 93 weekly rotations to 27 destinations, although three of them did not begin until December for the ski season.

It will be interesting to see their final proposals for winter 22-23.

A weekly rotation to Ibiza has been dropped , chania has been dropped , and Limoges , Bergerac and beziers all now only operating jun to aug. Can’t see any replacements so are we going to see a reduction in aircraft this summer ?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
