Reports by Sean M on X that West Jet are reducing their Glasgow route to 3 weekly in summer 2027. Also confirmed (in the comments) that CWL is staying at 4 weekly (at the moment)

Edit: I know it’s a post about Glasgow, but thought it’s relevant given this route launched at the same time as Cardiff.

You have to remember though, as far as Glasgow is concerned, Air Transat also fly to YYZ too on their A321neo...and from EDI you have Air Canada and WestJet flying that route too. There is no great distance between these Scottish cities so maybe there's too much competition, hence the reported reduction from 4 to 3 flights a week for 2027. I'm not an expert but that could be one of many reasons.

And, to be fair, WestJet at Glasgow are not subsidised, as far as I am aware.
Neither is WestJet at Cardiff. The WestJet CEO stated neither route are subsidised.

In other news according to Cardiff Airport in a Facebook reply Summer 2027 will be released on 3rd July.

CWL-YYZ is visible on GDS schedules for 2027. 4x weekly 7M8 on Mo, Tu, Th, Sa from end of May to beginning of September.

Cardiff Airport page on facebook, posting todays Westjet flight is fully booked outbound. It would be nice to know how many passengers from across the bridge the route is attracting.

That's good to hear.

It does look like they've started to load some flights onsale for the end of May 2027 but it looks a bit incomplete so will have to wait a bit.

The 'tip off' was about the WG which was answered. Any airport isn't going to reveal commercial agreements.

"The Welsh Government has not provided any guarantee to pay for unsold tickets.”

Is this the hand of Bristol Airport trying to stir things up again , by giving a tip off to the paper to stir emotions up , what do they want to close the airport the Welsh press in my mind I think they do , when it is closed then they will moan that we need an airport for wales there is no win situation with these people .

Well I am booking a summer 27 flight so that is positive.

If the tip was from Bristol they can go spin .... festering bullies that they are !

The Welsh public, politicians and traditional and emerging media outlets are more than capable of stirring the pot, undermining a public asset and downplaying their own nation's ability to forge its own path without help from Bristol Airport, although granted Bristol does have a willing audience when it comes to sharing its own one-sided view of the world.

The article seems to shift between this being "a tip off" or "a suggestion" and even by Welsh media standards seems to be 95% previous copy and 5% conjecture. The reality is that while the commercial terms involved should absolutely remain confidential, the Welsh Government has previously stated on record that absolutely no funds have been paid to Westjet and the only support in place is via on-site support at Cardiff Airport.

Could be from anyone tbf.
I suppose the press are just investigating something they've been told.

Investigate before publishing. If they can't find any evidence to back these claims, don't publish. Another example of poor journalism.

Jerry, pleased t see your post about Westjet on Pprune, there are people on there who just delight in seeing CWL failing or suffering bad luck I don't post on there far too toxic for me.

I think there’s always going to be sceptics about such a route from Cardiff and Cardiff Airport in general. Main thing is that the route is onsale for next summer.

Westjet has just annonced on X, and also reported on Cardiff Airport group page of Facebook, that the Toronto - CWL route is performing significantly above expectations, with growing passenger demand, and growing interest on both sides of the Atlantic

Is there a link for this?

I've seen the post on the Facebook group, but the X post that it mentions is nowhere to be seen?

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
