Leeds Bradford: Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
I did see a plough on horsforth ring road earlier not sure east bound then back westbound.

Clowncil indeed..That is a major arterial road that needs to be kept open..Its the main route to a busy airport and it looks like nothing has been attempted at ploughing and gritting..Hope they`ve managed to keep their beloved cycle lanes open though:rage:
They probably can't use a plough due to all the speed bumps everywhere. 🤔

And we now have those idiots from the small irrelevant airport in South Yorkshire claiming that their runway would be cleared quickly and diversions would not happen there. They seem to have quickly forgotten about the 5 day closure because of snow a few years back which grounded all movements. You can't reason with these people as their airport is immune from all weather conditions.
Of course there'd be no diverts there. Nothing to divert!

I seem to recall DSA being closed for around 4 days some years back after it snowed. Seems they were so shocked at the sight of snow, which never happens there apparently, that they made an unholy mess of clearing it. Or not clearing it!

If only LBA was a tropical paradise like DSA. Palm, coconut trees, sandy beaches stretching for miles, calm warm seas with a warm climate all round and an airport that never has to close. How fortunate DSA is.

Not forgetting DSA’s runway is on a giant turntable so can face into any direction when it’s windy

Anyway here’s Important Weather Update from Leeds/Bradford Airport

IMG_2698.jpeg

UPDATE 12:00: Attached image taken at approx. 11.00.

Due to ongoing heavy snowfall, the runway at Leeds Bradford remains closed until further notice. Our teams are working hard to reopen it as soon as it is safe to do so.
Customers are advised to contact their airline for the most up-to-date information regarding their flight before travelling to the airport.

Due to the high volume of customers in the departure lounge, we may need to temporarily restrict access through security, this will be managed in flight priority order. Our operations team will be on hand to assist, please listen out for announcements within the terminal.

We will provide the next update at 14:00. Thank you to our customers for their ongoing patience and understanding, and to our teams on the ground who are working tirelessly to clear the falling snow and minimise impact on flight schedules.

Quite busy earlier with lots of holding into Man. Ryr49MN ALC-LBA has just landed at EMA. EXS34S NCL-FUE has just turned round over Stoke & has asked to hold over Pole hill. The aircraft is G-JZBX. Lets hope we open in time for the Ryanair Buzz SP-RZD currently over Northern Germany.

I think LBA will need to stay open well beyond midnight tonight given many of the outbound flights are showing departure times as late as 1800 hrs. Knowing our luck though we will have low visibility later as slightly warmer air meets cold snow on the ground. Let's hope they can get the runway dry to enable Cat3 arrivals should that happen.

And we are in low visibility procedures too. 200m, freezing fog so runway 14 is less than ideal for any would-be arrivals.

And to make matters worse the inbound Ryanair from Warsaw has just been informed by ATC that the ILS on runway 32 it out of use, It's been taken out by the snow.

Current RVR for runway 14: Touchdown 340m - Mid Point 300m - Stop End 375

The FUE we should have been on G-DRTE is just taxiing out for departure...Shudder to think where it might have to land on the return....Think we made the right decision to delay a few days..
So we are getting departures currently but all arrivals are diverting?

Sounds like the ILS issue has been fixed as the holding inbound Ryanair from Dublin has just asked ATC for an approach to ILS runway 32.

Edit: Cancel that we now have freezing fog and the ryanair has cancelled his request and will remain in the overhead hold
