I agree it's not simple but the catchment area of an airport most definitely isn't defined by the surface access of an airport, it is defined more by choice and availability. Take for example flights to somewhere like Tenerife. Flights to Tenerife are available from airports throughout the North of England often with choice of more than one airline therefore the imaginary catchment circle ring will be significantly smaller from Manchester airport than if you compare Tenerife with somewhere like Dubai where somebody in say Leeds will have to choose between Manchester or Newcastle for their departure airport.

Just as a look at the catchment area I've picked random weekend to fly to Tenerife in November.

Liverpool - (3 flights)
Friday & Saturday - easyJet
Sunday - Ryanair

Manchester - (22 Flights)
Friday - Ryanair (2), Jet2 (3), easyJet (2), Tui (1)
Saturday - Ryanair (2), Jet2 (3), easyJet (2), Tui (1)
Sunday - Ryanair (2), Jet2 (2), easyJet (1), Tui (1)

Leeds - (5 Flights)
Friday - 2x Jet2,
Saturday - 1xJet2, 1x Ryanair
Sunday - Jet2 x1

Newcastle (7 Flights)
Friday - 2x Jet2 1x Ryanair,
Saturday - 2x Jet2
Sunday - 1x Jet2, 1x Tui

I suspect there will be more flights for next November with Jet2 providing 3 flights over the weekend from Liverpool alone. In total 37 flights from the North so the catchment area has plenty of availability, flexibility and choice. Catchment area clearly can sustain this.

Jet2 will have what they call "Twilight check-in" . It allows you to drop your bags earlier, say the night before. Easyjet have also asked to have the same facility.

I believe this was a Jet2 first. It was first done at LBA probably about a decade ago, TUI copied and I think easyJet have followed suit. It can be handy as it means you can offload your bags the night before making it far less stressful for those who hate the airport experience. The downside is you do have to make an additional journey to the airport which will come at a cost to you if you need to park up while you check-in your bags. Those who I know who have used it swear by it and say the whole airport process is much easier. It means you can just go straight through security at the airport and you can forget about your belongings until you arrive on your holiday.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
