And so begins the ... steep decline down the roller coaster to Christmas. Strap in folks, it's always quick. October, Halloween, Bonfire night and upon the last puff of gun powder, FULL STEAM AHEAD.

It has to be coupled with the weather and colours my favourite season.

Prefer Summer. Warm weather person 😎 but recent heat too much! Different story if I'm on a Med/Caribbean beach.....

Winter is okay if it doesn't snow. Nice to look at but no fun if you have to go out. Love cold, crisp, sunny mornings. The sunsets too. not forgetting the changing leaf colours.

As for Christmas, loses its magic as you get older. Okay, it's nice to have indulgent food and drink a bit more than usual. What irritates me is Asda now stocking tins of chocs, Sainsburys have their bakery mince pies and Card Factory already displaying family cards. Thank goodness Greggs don't roll out their mince pies until at least mid-November.

Bah humbug!!

I adore Winter but detest the jolly season. Our of the woodwork come relatives one did not know existed, Charities invading the neighbourhood, people one has no time for in August wanting friendship ( more likely a drink ), and being forced to be happy because " It's Christmas" notwithstanding that it ain't my religion!

Never mind Humbug, How about Gobstopper?

Nice one JennyJet!

There's also the hypocritical attitude of known relatives. We're supposed to forgive and forget the obnoxious ones' behaviour in the "season of goodwill". Bah humbug yet again!

I'm not religious but have missed carols by candlelight service in a "proper" church (not one of these modern designs made of 60s concrete). Yardley Old Church (St Edburgha's) where I used to go when aunt lived nearby, Also went to Remembrance Day service there.

Well you two are a bundle of joy 🤣

Totally get it however. For me I love these next 3 months, socially busy, autumn weather, Christmas. I do however hate the commercialisedness of Christmas and how early it arrives each year.

My recommendation and stance/legalisation would be to tell all shops they can have a smithering of Christmas until remembrance Sunday, then after that do what you like. I don’t like too much before remembrance Sunday and find it takes over that and people seem to forget about it. This year it been early maybe a virtue and blessing given the incompetence of our government to forsee anything …

Well I must be getting old. I hate the commercialisation of Christmas taking over everything in the months running up to the big non event. I don't mind the day itself and watching the children open their presents but I'd be happy for everything to go back to normal for Boxing Day.

Have a tale to tell about that picture.

My brother was the manager at a metal stockholder just outside Birmingham City Centre. The trade counter bell went, so his deputy went to answer. Came back to office upstairs and said "you'll never guess who's downstairs and he's asking for you".

Brother intrigued, stopped in his tracks when "confronted" with Roy Wood in full make-up. He was on his way to a pre-Christmas afternoon concert and wanted something for his guitar. According to my brother "lovely guy, who despite me saying the bit of metal was free, insisted on paying". Apparently, Roy Wood somehow knew brother's boss so that's how he'd got his name.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
