Thanks again for the updates Scottie Dog!
So it appears all stands on pier 1 are now operational...is the jetbridge issue with the a350 sorted?

I read on one forum that at least one of the stands I think 106 has shown no issue with the A350. It was 110 I believe that showed the issue apparently “airbridge wouldnt get to the L2 door without hitting the engine and was 2 feet short of the L1 door.”

Stand 110 is on the left of the image below with stand 106 on the right. These stands clearly have no issues with the 787 or A330

This is my take on the even number stands on the new Pier 1 from OAN updates and posts/images I’ve seen online. The odd number stands on the opposite side of the pier appear to be envisaged as primarily narrow body stands for 737 NG/Max and A320 series

Reading on other forums about the TP cutting corners and saving money on value engineering etc, so the budget is £1bn, has this figure changed? Is there a breakdown of how much each area of the overall project is costing?

It has recently been referred to as "the £1.2Bn Transformation Plan" and MAG has raised another £350M via bond issue for use across the group airports (ie. it's not all for MAN). Whether that money represents expanded ambition or rising costs is unknown ... watch this space.

The original £1Bn budget was roughly £700M T2 work, £150M airfield work (taxiway realignments etc.), £150M contingency.

The 777-9 is larger than the A350-900/1000 and in length the 747 so it seems clear that 106, 110 and 112 can all accept an A350 or 747. The question is still which stands can currently accept an A350/747 via an Airbridge. It seems 106 can accept an A350-900 and most likely the A350-1000 but had issues with the 747.

110 can’t currently take an A350 and I guess that probably means it can’t take a 747. 112 came into operation a bit later than 106 and 110 and seems to have the most available space of all of the stands on Pier 1 so fingers crossed it can handle all of the above aircraft.

I’m very hopeful only a moderate tweak is needed to get the airbridges at 110 and 112 compatible with the 747 and A350. There seems only minor visual difference between the configuration of 106 and 110. Clearly 106 can safely dock an airbridge on an A350 whilst 110 currently can’t.

The TP comes in for a lot of criticism but the Pier looks good to me and it’s been delivered almost to schedule. I think it’s a shame it lacks moving walkways but the reality at so many major international hubs is you’ve got to be prepared to walk long distances so why should be MAN be different.

The airport is going to be so much better for this transformation and it is really exciting to think we will have the likes of a Virgin Clubhouse and a growing Virgin Atlantic hub in a few years, something only 10 years back we’d never believe. The idea that Emirates could send 3 x A380 a day along with multiple frequencies from Qatar and Etihad with 777 , 787 and A330’s would seem utterly inconceivable 15 years ago. Add in the extensive Thomas Cook long haul network and the return of Singapore and Cathay plus the numerous other long haul carriers and we should be so excited for the new terminal and new piers.

It will never be Changi of course but no UK airport will. We want an efficient, clean and modern airport not a vanity project. An airport that delivers solid long term profit for its shareholders, which in reality is each and everyone of us that live in an area under control of a Greater Manchester council. Interestingly they’re now removing the brand new cladding and windows from the airside facade to accommodate the 3 level link to the pier 2 VVC. An oversight or something happening earlier than planned?

Thanks #marni1971 for your update.

For those who don't know the site, the first structure seen (on the left), in the video is the Baggage Sortation hall - or to you and me The Baggage Hall.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
