From MAN's twitter account, photos from the first trial flight to depart Pier 1 (at least, I think it was a real flight...)

Source:
Some things that drew my eye:
  • First shots of link corridor complete
  • We finally see how far up the windows on T2X go. My previous assumption had been the cladding 'stripes' between floors was where the ceiling void between floors would be, looks like the windows are very much not floor to ceiling so far
  • That floating A5 sign is huge
  • Jetbridges seem nice and modern

Whole raft of new photos and videos after the opening today, first up is this walkthrough that handily shows the full journey from legacy T2 to the new pier (I recommend turning speed down to 0.25 for the beginning to fully soak up the walk):

Next up is some new drone footage of the completed pier. All these greys are giving me German-airport vibes:

Whole bunch of stuff from MAN's Twitter account this morning too:

Time-lapse:

Another walkthrough showing a lot of stuff in video for the first time:

The headline act:

Nice shots of aircraft on stand and am impressive cake:

Back on 20th March myself and 2 other F4A members were kindly invited by the MANTP team to look at Pier One - the only down part was that, as the MEN had been doing a photoshoot, there was an embargo on sharing our photos on Social Media.

Some of our shots have possibly been surpassed by the professional photographer, but here are my memories of the afternoon.

Please do not copy these to any other forums.

Again we are walking in the wrong direction. This time you see the final travelator that you would have used coming from the terminal.

At one minute walking intervals there are signs with "walking time to furthest gate". These times are very conservative and for most people the time will be less.

Back into the Pier and we are at the further Gates - A10 & A11

Airside photos are not suppose to be taken, but I sneaked this one of a Jet2.com 737 on Stand 100

A fantastic day and one for which we are indebted to MAG for.

The link corridor in the photo in your post, and also the video you posted show all the lighting and also air conditioners attached to the temporary wall between the corridor and the rest of T2X, so its almost certain that there will be suspended ceiling put in, once the wall comes out.

If a suspended ceiling is installed at the same level in the temp corridor, as it in the permanent link corridor, it looks as though it will line up almost perfectly with the top of the windows, leaving the ceiling void as you described.

Re: Ceiling

Ah yes good spot, the horizontal slats will come down lower.

Re: Bins

I had originally assumed all of those silver R2D2 shaped things were bins. Although in all the videos, I don't see any openings on them? Anybody know what they're for?

Grabbing a still from a video, I think I've spotted a bin-like object next to where it says "A8".

Good morning
The R2D2 like bins are in fact so I recall being told, heaters although of course they will need to be very low heat as otherwise I can imagine little children getting their hands burned.

The last week has been pretty hectic so I make no apologies for the late posting of Issue #84 of PlaneTalk which is kindly supplied by the MANTP Project Team.

I have noticed that some of the images were included in last week's edition, but we'll put that down to overwork within the team as Pier One went live.

Also with Eurowings and Brussels Airlines moving to T2, does anyone know if they will exclusively be using the new pier?

Making the most of the weather we took a tram to the airport specifically to mooch around what’s opened this week. Photo marathon to follow.

With this weeks opening of pier one and the new car park (T2 MSCP West as it’s now called) we took a tram for a look around.

Starting on the old drop off area which is now a glorified paid for valet type service it seems:

From the top of the old MSCP, the T2X front:

Now the fun. A walkway has been laid on the old arrivals pick up from old T2 to the new MSCP, offering some new views:

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
