The drone not been seen for past 10 minutes but airport has the have authority from police to re-open

See local and national press are reporting that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance had a near miss with a drone whilst in Leeds Bradford Controlled Airspace near Wakefield yesterday evening.

This really has got to stop before it causes a major incident.

It’s like everything else, a minority of mindless idiots giving a bad name to the vast responsible majority of enthusiasts who enjoy flying these drones. My son in law has one and used it to take an aerial group photo at my son’s wedding to great effect and uses it to reccy his route when he goes kite surfing. He wouldn’t dream of using it for anything but a legitimate purpose and within the law.

Is there a realistic argument for saying that drone 'pilots' should have the same sort of training and licensing as an aircraft private pilot? It probably would not have to be as intensive, or expensive, as learning to fly an aircraft but at least those who qualified would have demonstrated their capability and serious commitment.

The good news seems to be that drones were grounded this week end at heathrow, when their transmission frequency was jammed.

Just seen a drone operating in Yeadon above the RAFA club. I don't know whether it is operating legally or not. It descended behind houses close to Yeadon Westfield Junior school if anybody at LBA ATC is interested.
