Yet another piece of brilliant journalism, what happened to checking your details are correct before publishing.

Seems the Indian airlines are really struggling at the moment (at least Jet Airways and Air India). Are the smaller loco's fairing any better? (Indigo, Vistara, etc)

Indigo are doing well. Biggest airline in India.

It's a shame as Air India and Jet are the biggest long haul carriers hopefully someone else will step up to the game such as Indigo. However in India it is much harder to operate successful long haul as expensive first/business cabins are hard to fill. Maybe Virgin could step up as they operate to India from LHR.

So Jet is also stopping India-Hong Kong on the same date. MAN's not the problem. It's their entire operations that are the problem

Anyway, let's record their stats here:

November average 167 passengers - low to mid 60s% loads
December average 202 passenger - mid 70s% load
January average 234 passengers - mid to high 80s% loads

The loads only show you half the picture as we know the yield is the overriding factor that determines the routes success.

I certainly agree with you on that, especially as there appears to have been a reasonable number of passengers transferring to VS transatlantic flights, which would probably dilute revenues.

It's a great shame however that the route has been lost, although the potential has been shown and may help to attract another carrier.

Airlines don't tend to drop routes abruptly if they lose money as long haul notoriously need a couple of years to break even; the frequency increase prior to the 1st flight should be reflective of decent enough yield.

Pretty sure all the lost long haul routes at MAN were announced 3 to 6 months in advance of the last service It just renains to be seen who is willing to cater for about 10,000 passengers per month.

Hi from Bilko

I heard today that the Jet Mumbai route will be resuming middle to end of April. Dont know how much credability exists to the rumour but positive if true.

Cheers from Bilko

Jet might not last that long. Indian government asking banks to support Jet as an emergency measure according to BBC website this morning

"The hub's chief executive Andrew Cowan noted that it had been "one of the best-performing new long haul routes we have launched in recent years, proving hugely popular with business and leisure passengers alike...We have been assured the Manchester-Mumbai service will be reinstated at the earliest opportunity and look forward to continuing to work with our partner Jet Airways. "

Reading some of the stuff on A.net, a resumption may be doubtful, but I guess Andrew Cowan has to sound an optimistic note.
Obviously we hope they can be salvaged at this late stage but the issues have been known and dragged on for months.

I would like to think "one of the best-performing new long haul routes we have launched in recent years" is indicative of yields and not just passenger and freight loads.

I know what you mean. One guy forecast a few months ago that Jet wouldn't survive and he seems desperately keen to see his prediction come true. That's pretty sad.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
