First BRS TUI flight of this summer tomorrow at 0600 - to Faro.

The TUI timetable shows further Faro flights on Sunday 23 and Sunday 30 May. Nothing else is shown for BRS in May.

Heard on grapevine that TUI has written to many travellers in the summer schedules booked out of Bristol that their flight has now been moved to operate out of Exeter airport. Anyone heard this?

I would have thought it would be the other way around and them not operating out of Exeter this summer. Easier to consolidate a small base and move operations to BRS which is much bigger.

I think jet2 parking up on tui’s door step may produce some interesting movements from TUI over the next 12 months

BRS has been TUI's fourth largest UK base for a number of years. Thomas Cook had three based aircraft at BRS so Jet2 is to some degree a replacement for those. However, TUI had moved quickly to fill the gap and last summer should have seen six TUI narrow bodies and a 787 based full time but the pandemic put paid to that.

Ryanair recently said that BRS was one of their airports that would see increases, although currently Ryanair has actually reduced its programme very slightly - in normal times it bases four aircraft plus the equivalent of three other based aircraft operating from bases 'at the other end' of routes.

The airline that might see a stunting of growth is easyJet. In 2019 they had 18 aircraft based at BRS but had already decided to reduce the size of their airline fleet even before the virus struck. easyJet Holidays was intended to be an important player but again the pandemic played its part in making things difficult.

Two departures shown for tomorrow - Mahon and Ibiza. I think that's the first time for a while that there have been two TUI departures on the same day.

Looks like 2 737max will be flying from late July operating a mix of flights from Bristol. The 787 is still scheduled to fly to Rhodes , dalaman , palma , Orlando and cancun.

TUI's newest B737Max (G-TUMV) positioned in from LGW today. This aircraft arrived into LGW from Seattle Boeing Field a month ago and has not flown a single trip yet.

The BRS base is now up to 4x aircraft:

I notice that TUI is expanding at both Newcastle and Doncaster-Sheffield airports next summer (2022) with an additional based aircraft at both. I read somewhere that DSA will have five based TUI aircraft in summer 2022. Is that correct?

Has anyone worked out the likely summer 2022 complement at BRS based on the programme so far published?

As far as I can see it’s the same as this year disappointingly. Increases to hurghada , bodrum and a new route to sharm el sheik. Faro , girona , Alicante and chania dropped. Antalya reduced Tenerife and paphos increased. Orlando increases back to two per week. No indication yet whether Dreamliner will be operating short haul in between cancun (mon and fri ) and Orlando (weds and sat ) . One dalaman operated by tbc

I tend to think Tui are focusing on airports that have less or no competition as it’s their way of increasing passenger numbers and profits of course.

I think with airports like BRS they are not expanding as much as smaller or airports with very little competition. As BRS has quite a lot of Competition on most of their routes. You have easyjet, Ryanair, and Jet2 now. And also they’ll want to be in a strong position to recover from the pandemic and get as many passengers as possible traveling with them. But let’s hope they expand more from airports like BRS and other airports which they haven’t added much in the future.

For BRS you probably need to take in the whole south west Britain picture. Yes they have 5 at Bristol but also 3 at Cardiff and 3 between Exeter and Bournemouth. So 11 based aircraft in the area.

Is that five at Bristol for summer 2022 based on the current programme? Summer 2020 was originally seven based - six narrow bodies and a full time 787 - but it was reduced to five narrow bodies and a full time 787 before the pandemic came along.

TUI can be a bit like Ryanair used to be (still is to a degree) in that their published programme can often go through a number of incarnations before the final one emerges. Obviously the pandemic which might well be with us through next summer adds even more uncertainties and not only with TUI but with all airlines.

I believe it's 5 737s forgot about the 787.

Because of the current 2022 schedule I would expect the 787 to be permanently based next year alongside 5 x 737s. Given the routes / frequencies dropped I wonder if we may see them re added if demand allows

Looking at the TUI timetable a small number of routes are shown beginning in the next week or so to join the Balearic routes already operating, with more routes again from August.

Currently Orlando Sanford is shown as beginning on Saturday 21 August, thereafter every Saturday, and Cancun on Thursday 19 August, thereafter every Thursday and Sunday.

Mexico and the USA are on the UK's amber list but holidays to Florida and Mexico are on sale on the TUI holiday website, including those mentioned above from BRS..
