Prsume it is rescuing any Ski Customers who will be in the Balkan Mountains. Especially after the latest FCO advice.

I don’t believe they operated from BRS to SOF but I guess there were maybe some people still out there and had a spare aircraft/crew at BRS.

I think at this stage with TUI and Jet2/easyJet it will where crews and aircraft are over originating. They could put crew into different bases by taxis and coaches if needed, or requirement is needed and it’s doable increase the amount of flights for that day to position aircraft back into base etc.

BRS winter timtable 2019/2020 shows these Sofia weekly flights, all in the ski season

easyJet 2 x weekly Wednesdays and Saturdays
Ryanair 2 x weekly Tuesdays and Saturdays although as far as I'm aware Ryanair only operated the Saturdays rotation
Balkan Holidays operating 1 x weekly on Saturdays (the carrier was Enter Air and some Saturdays there were two Enter Air SOF rotations)

TUI is not shown as a tour operator to Sofia on the BRS winter timetable but may have taken seats on easyJet (they certainly do this for some summer Lakes and Mountains holidays from BRS).

There is nothing on the BRS website departures/arrivals pages that indicates a TUI flight to Sofia today. Where did the information come from? The scheduled Wednesday easyJet Sofia flight this morning is shown as 'departed' and the return is showing a four-hour delay. Presumably it flew with no passengers to Sofia and is bringing back those out there.

It ended up performing BRS-SOF-LGW. So it must’ve been a rescue flight for LGW pax but made use of spare a/c at BRS.

Early days but there is some changes to the summer 2021 programme. ( they must be due the official launch soon ). Bodrum goes 2 weekly but Izmir and almeria are both dropped. There is no indication of which flights are Dreamliner flights but the impression is that it won’t be permanently based next year and will only operate the long haul flights. Anyone know any different on that score ?

TUI announced today that they will have to cut 8,000 jobs all through the group. The cuts are blamed on the coronavirus. This is the start of major cuts right across the boards in the airline industry. Boing said yesterday that a major American airline will be a casualty of this virus.Early days but makes you wonder which airports in the UK will loose something.Sorry if wrong forum please move.

I'd imagine that there would be cuts at most. From a BRS point of view I'd imagine that the most vulnerable part may well be the long haul and Dreamliner flights.

By coincidence I was posting this story in the TUI Airline thread as you submitted your post.

We'll leave your post here as members might want to consider how BRS might be affected. TUI said its restructuring would affect its airline business and would also involve selling off "non-profitable activities".

I am in the understanding that that 8,000 number is not entirely accurate. The reason i state that is the following:

"This will have an impact on potentially 8,000 roles globally that will either not be recruited or reduced"

Seasonal Cabin crew, especially in the UK, were never recruited/or told their training is not going ahead and they are no longer required. Unsure how this affected the German, Belgium, Netherlands, and Nordic operations but would imagine it is similar course of action for them too. Then you've got seasonal representatives which i would have gone under a similar course of action as the cabin crew - and seasonal representatives will not just be from the UK but also the other 4 operations i've stated. There is some places that one part of the group serve yet the other doesn't (UK and Netherlands, Belgium and Nordic operations etc).

According to this report Tui will operate to eight destinations from three UK airports from 11 July.

Then from the end of July they will offer, subject to government advice, a total of 19 destinations from five UK airports.

It seems from what you say that BRS will be one of the five airports planned to be used from the end of July.

Given that BRS is TUI's fourth largest UK base it would be surprising if it was not one of the five airports. Another point is that the Scottish school holidays will be all but over by the end of July.

BRS has been TUIs 4th largest base for a while now after LGW, MAN and BHX.
This certainly puts BRS well ahead of the other large bases of NCL, EMA and DSA, followed by CWL.

Now confirmed that the three TUI UK airports from which the company will restart operations to eight destinations on 11 July are LGW, MAN and BHX.

Two more UK airports (as yet still unnamed) will join in from the end of July when the number of destinations is expected to increase to 19.

They probably will include a Scottish airport (GLA is their biggest presence there) but the fact that the Scottish school holidays are a month ahead of England and Wales might be a factor to be taken into account. If it is to be GLA and BRS that would leave a large area in Yorkshire and the North East not directly covered.
