That's been quite a regular occurrence in some winters. I've just started a BRS Enter Air thread. I hadn't realised there wasn't one.
 
Enter Air have based an aircraft/crews at BRS for the last couple of winters. There were two aircraft parked up last night and both operated today (one for TUI).

The ski flights today are as follows:

TUI
TUI B738 (G-FDZB) - BRS-INN-BRS-CMF-BRS
TUI B738 (G-FDZT) - FUE-BRS-SZG-BRS
TUI B738 (G-FDZU) - BRS-GVA-BRS-FUE
ENT B738 (SP-ESA) - BRS-VRN-BRS (then positioned to MAN)

Enter Air
ENT B738 (SP-ENV) - BRS-SOF-BRS-SOF-BRS

Titan Airways
AWC B752 (G-ZAPX) - GNB-BRS (then positions to STN)

Austrian
AUA A320 (OE-LBU) - INN-BRS-INN

Also scheduled flights operating today
SZG (5)- 5x EZY (1x A319/4x A320)
SOF (2) - 1x EZY (A320), 1x RYR (B738)
GNB (2) - 2x EZY (1x A319/1x A320)
SZG (2) - 2x EZY (1x A319/1x A320)
LYS (1) - 1x EZY (A320)
BGY(1) - 1x RYR (B738)

Rovaniemi seems to have lost much of its popularity in recent years from BRS. There was only one Rovaniemi last Christmas - a day trip for TUI. In recent winters the main Lapland Santa airports from BRS have been Enontekio, Ivalo and Kittila with TUI Airways and Enter Air the main carriers, plus easyJet operating Kittila from pre-Christmas through to March for ski holidays for a tour operator.

Transun, Inghams, TUI and Santas Lapland were the Santa tour operators last Christmas season.

It will be interesting to see if the 2 x weekly TUI service sees some of the other Lapland airports scaled back.

Could be the price. I know somebody who recently took their children to see Farther Christmas and they paid something like £3000 for 4 nights for three people and that was before spends.

At BRS the Santa flights remain popular - I think there were about 17 return flights last Christmas season - but mainly to Enontekio, Ivalo and Kittila and not Rovaniemi (apart from one return flight) which was the main Santa airport from BRS several years ago. In addition, easyJet also operates 1/2 weekly during the Santa season and then on through until March at 1/2 weekly for ski holidays. It does so for a tour operator.

Now that TUI seem to be expanding Rovaniemi next Christmas season (2 x weekly for the season) I wondered if the other Lapland 'Santa' airports would be scaled back a bit. We shall have to wait until the BRS Santa list of flights is published later this year.

There's been quite a bit of bad publicity about these trips in the last couple of years. No snow, muddy fields with mangy and unattractive reindeer, grumpy Santas and elves, cheap poor quality 'gifts', bad refreshment offerings. Might have deterred potential punters.
 
Yet the overall number of Santa flights from BRS hasn't dropped off. If Ivalo, Enontekio and Kittila remain broadly as they have been from BRS in recent seasons in terms of departures the significantly increased TUI Rovaniemi offering next Christmas will see a substantial increase in total.

Looking forwards from 2008 these are the total number of passengers to Lapland airports (Rovaniemi, Kittila, Ivalo and Enontekio) each year. They all took place in the Santa seasons but in recent years easyJet has also been operating to Kittila for a tour operator in part of the ski season which does slightly skew the numbers in those years. Kittila is also used by tour operators for Santa flights from BRS.

Good point, my apologies. My Finnish geography isn't great, so have just checked Finavia website and I see that Rovaniemi is 100-200 miles further south than the other three. Perhaps there are more problems at Rovaniemi due to climate - would be lovely if potential travellers really are doing their research properly and choosing trips which have a better chance of snow. I'm afraid I've not been dedicated enough to check respective altitiudes, but I believe most of Scandinavian Lapland is pretty flat and barren.
 
I read on another website that TUI had some problems finding aircraft at BRS over the weekend. It was reported there that SmartLynx and Air Explore stood in at times but then the Air Explore B737-800 went tech and had to be replaced by a Gowair A320. I presume that SmartLynx also used a 320.

Given it was the weekend at the beginning of half-term when flights might be expected to be full I wonder if the fewer seats on the 320 (than on the 737-800) led to anyone being unable to fly.

This post is based on that other website being accurate. If anyone knows differently please correct. Thank you.

Again some of the TUI flights today were operated by other airlines. According to FR24 AlbaStar operated to Geneva and Salzburg, and Enter Air operated to Verona.

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
