Bristol: TUI Airways Route News & Base Updates

Use this prefix for new threads for Bristol Airport
The 25th April’19 departure is still in the booking engine but will not provide any holidays as the 7 day return date would be in the Summer schedule due for release on Thursday so until that happens we can speculate as much as we want.
The same applies to MAN for example. MAN-PUJ operates through the winter with the last departure listed in the timetable as 26 April. May onwards is still shown as blank as it is with BRS and I assume all other airports.

You are absolutely right. We can speculate as much as we want but it won't change anything, although that is the case with many things we discuss in these forums.

With tui s summer 2019 release tomorrow , is anyone expecting any surprises other that what we already know ?

Perhaps one of the first things to try to establish is the make-up of the base in summer 2019. It isn't likely to be less than the four of this summer (plus the part-based B787-8) but will it still be 2 x B757 and 2 x B737-800?

It's also to be hoped that the new routes and increased frequencies on some others mentioned in a BRS press release recently don't come at the expense of reductions elsewhere in the programme.

On another note, the first departure to Punta Cana will depart at 1130 tomorrow.

Disappointing if Punta Cana has gone although it is twice weekly in BHX so not sure if that has some bearing on it... would have thought not given the mass of people south of Bristol that wouldn't maybe travel to BHX over BRS. I would have liked to have seen CUN go year round, don't understand why this isn't the case.
Will be good to see the full list and what this means as a base for TUI.

As far as I can see so far we have lost one Palma and the punta Cana but have gained quite a few extra flights and a few day changes along the way

Looking at S19 over S18 there will 6 extra flights per week and two new routes.

The base will be 4x TUI shorthaul, and a 787 will be based 5 days a week operating 3x longhaul and 3x shorthaul flights.

  • Marrakech and Thessaloniki are new routes, 1x weekly.
  • Kefalonia, Cancun, Naples and Antalya get an increase 1x weekly flight each.
  • Palma loses it's late night departure on Saturday (however the aircraft no longer operates a W-pattern to another base during the day meaning the aircraft now operates to FUE in the afternoon. This means there is no loss in number of departures on a Saturday)
  • PUJ has been dropped. It was 1x weekly.

The 787 will be based from Tuesday to Saturday and will operate:

Tuesday

Mexico, Cancun

Wednesday

Cape Verde

Thursday

Dubrovnik
Larnaca

Friday
Florida, Sanford

Saturday
Mexico, Cancun

This will mean DBV and LCA will see a good increase in seats too!

As mentioned before, Milan is currently showing in the schedule on Wed and Sat but no timings or operator.

So far the schedule has no gaps.

A good increase all round!

Milan? That's an interesting destination for TUI, Italian Lakes and Mountains packages i'm guessing?

I can't seem to get any details for Milan tho. Only brs , man and bhx but no details

Looking at MAN and BHX in the flight website and the flight numbers come up as Flybe but they start with 7 so possibly they could be Eastern Airways working for Flybe as Flybe's charters start with 8, so it's possible they'll be charters using Easterns E170s.

I think Naples ran twice weekly prior to summer 17 back to one per week. The Friday rotation was a 757 and I think it was Monday or a Tuesday with the extra rotation on a W pattern with Gatwick based 737.
I would like to think I'm not dreaming on this one.

Overall it's a very good increase for the 787, both in routes and a fuller season. It's almost a five-aircraft summer base. Punta Cana is strange though. To introduce it for one summer season only before ditching it obviously raises questions. Either this summer's forward bookings are poor or perhaps it's a case of scheduling. At least there will six rotations each week in summer 2019 compared with four this summer.

I don't think you've been dreaming. Looking back over the past ten years non-based B738s have operated some of the rotations in most years.

This is the position from 2008 onwards. Naples was flown as a summer charter route before that, by both First Choice and Thomas Cook. In fact, I have some recollection of there being 3 x weekly one summer involving both airlines. In summer 2012 easyJet came onto the route as well and its presence can be measured from that time by the annual passenger numbers for the route.

2008
Fridays: Based First Choice B757 and based Thomas Cook A320

2009
Fridays: Based Thomson B757

2010
Fridays: Non-based Thomson B738

2011
Mondays: Based Thomson B757
Fridays: Non-based Thomson B738

2012
Mondays: Based Thomson B757
Fridays: Non-based Thomson B738
easyJet 3 x weekly

2013
Mondays: Based Thomson B757
Fridays: Non-based Thomson B738
easyJet 2 x weekly

2014
Mondays: Based Thomson B757
Fridays: Non-based Thomson B738
easyJet 2 x weekly

2015
Mondays: Based Thomson B757
Fridays: Based Thomson B757
easyJet 2 x weekly

2016
Mondays: Non-based Thomson B738
Fridays: Based Thomson B738
easyJet 2 x weekly

2017
Mondays: Based TUI B757
Fridays: Based TUI B738
easyJet 3 x weekly

2018
Mondays: Based TUI*
Fridays: Based TUI*
easyJet 3 x weekly

* unsure of type

Annual passenger figures for BRS-NAP since 2008 across all airlines:

2008 18,701
2009 11,417
2010 9,034
2011 21,532
2012 41,278
2013 33,025
2014 34,048
2015 34,924
2016 35,349
2017 45,811

It's a pity tui did not use their imagination and just find a route or two to occupy the Dreamliner on Sundays and Mondays. Seems a shame to lose punta Cana. It could have easily filled a Monday slot and give another Orlando a go on Sundays.

Overall I'm very impressed after feeling a bit pessimistic when I learnt last weekend we were losing punta Cana. Very surprised to see some short haul Dreamliner flights but when the 757s eventually go maybe we will see some more of this. There are also a number of tbas as well - dlm, ayt and nbe. With a bit of imagination you can see the outline of a future 5 short haul aircraft base ....

DBV has probably seen high demand as it's a cruise flight. The cruise is popular as is the stay packages. I think the 787/767 operate most of the DBV flights. It's good to see increased demand on short haul routes. It will be interesting to see what happens when the 757's start to go. Maybe a based SH 767 if they are still around? Pilots are cross trained on 757 and 767.

Today's Cancun went via MAN, tweet from passenger to TUI stating due to rain/wet runway aircraft could not take on sufficient fuel to go direct. Incidentally runway 09 was in use, so I don't know whether this would have also impacted the fuel situation.

According to Wikipedia there will be 14 MAX10 delivered so looks like a straight swap with the 757s and the 767s are operating for TUI Nordic. I can see BRS being 2 737 MAX10s and 3 737 800s eventually

Yes I agree , don't forget add a Dreamliner to the mix though

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
