Bristol: TUI Airways Route News & Base Updates

Nice to see increases on these routes. I just hope they are not replacing existing services and I wonder whether they can fill the remaining day or two for the Dreamliner ?

On the face of it there will be cuts elsewhere if the additional 10,000 seats is correct. As I pointed out, a second Cancun alone ought to take up an additional 10,000 seats and probably more. If it's sloppy drafting and it was meant to say 10,000 seats each way then that would begin to make more sense.

We should know next week when the full summer 2019 is released.

TUI does have a habit of announcing routes which are not then operated, and I'm not just talking about BRS. For example, there should have been a second Cape Verde route (Boa Vista) this winter to go with the existing Sal but Boa Vista was later chopped from the programme.

I would have to agree, sloppy drafting and subsequent publishing seems to be more prevalent these days, I don't know whether anything gets properly proof read before it is released.

Good news for Bristol.. how many aircraft based again?
We presume four for summer 2019 as with summer 2018. We don't know whether they will be 2 x 757 and 2 x 738 as with summer 2018. TUI is disposing of the remainder of its 757 fleet in the next two years so it's not clear what will be at BRS in summer 2019. Should know next week when the summer 2019 programme is released in detail.

Given the second Cancun weekly rotation in summer 2019 it looks as though there will also be a 787 based on five days each week - it's four days each week in summer 2018.

Cancun

The first flight of the season is due to depart tomorrow at 0805. Mayfly shows the B787-8 positioning in from Lulea Airport, Sweden at 0535.

I'd never heard of Lulea or its airport until I looked at Mayfly. According to Wiki it has a runway 3,350 metres long (it shares with the military), handled 1.177 million passengers in 2015 (the last year with figures) and TUIFlyNordic operates to Cancun, PhuQuoc (Vietnam) and Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic). You learn something every day......................it will be very useful if I ever want to fly from Sweden to Vietnam.

Now positioning in from a slightly less exotic Birmingham at 1635 this afternoon!

Birmingham is very nice too. At least I've discovered something about Lulea.🙂

Ive seen a mention on another site that punta Cana will not be on sale for summer 2019. Any truth in this rumour ?

Without knowing the track record of the poster on whichever site the comment is on, it's difficult to know the strength of the rumour.

It would seem strange to drop Punta Cana after only one season unless bookings this summer are disappointing.

I have my doubts too . I just wanted to see if there's any truth in the rumour. I hope they have not decided to drop the route as it would kind of take the shine off the second weekly cancun if it does . We will find out for sure on Thursday

TUI BRS - PUJ

Currently the Tui Flights search shows the first departure as Thursday 25th April 2019 which is about 3 weeks later than 2018. I would very much doubt this would be a one off flight, we will only know for certain on 5th April.

The person who posted that PUJ won't return said she thinks its not returning because it hasn't sold as well as SFB and CUN.

That is a shame . Incidentally this mornings cancun has popped into Manchester en route

Head winds or crew? BRS weather seems OK.
PUJ for 25th April doesn't appear to be on sale any more.

Yeah that is a shame. Hopefully for BRS they'll use the aircraft for something else.

It's ironic if PUJ has been swapped for a second weekly CUN as the former is about 1,000 km less distance than CUN and should be able to be reached non-stop all the time as SFB - about the same distance as PUJ - seems to be.

I have a hard copy of the draft master plan for the one published in 2006, ie the current master plan. In it the airport discussed the operational requirements of both existing aircraft and those in development, including the B 787, in its runway extension deliberations. At that time it thought that the B 787 would have a range in excess of 9,000 km from the existing BRS runway. That doesn't seem to be the case as BRS-CUN is less than 8,000 km.

TUI operated BRS-CUN with B 767s for a number of years with the outbound having to call at MAN for fuel each time. Last summer there were about three MAN outbound visits for fuel which it seems has so far not bothered TUI if they have decided to increase CUN frequencies in summer 2019.

Given the undoubted success and further potential of BRS it's unfortunate in the extreme that they don't possess a runway able to take advantage of other things that might be on offer.

PUJ for 25th April doesn't appear to be on sale any more.

Yet it still shows in the TUI 2019 web timetable. That could be lax IT work by someone of course if it's been removed from sale.

The 25th April’19 departure is still in the booking engine but will not provide any holidays as the 7 day return date would be in the Summer schedule due for release on Thursday so until that happens we can speculate as much as we want.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
