I don't think Finnair will be happening for S17 as their wave of expansion has gone and the schedule is now full. The 319 that was scheduled to operate on the MAN flight from March to free up an ERJ to BHX has reverted back to usual, with just ad-hoc airbus upgrades in the evening.

Delta's post brexit re-think won't reflect well on the whole of the UK. ET are also in advanced negotiations with MAN and we will be getting USPBC so I think any stopping service would go through there.

I am sure Shaheen would do well at BHX, there was some talk of them staying within MAG and plumping for EMA instead although both of those rumours have gone quiet.

Etihad is obviously ruled out for the time being per James Hogan's statement.

Norwegian and Austrian are definitely possibilities. Austrian have been operating for a year now at MAN and seem to be extremely successful. AC Rouge or Westjet are contenders but Canada is an ever decreasing market for England (aside from London). I don't have much hope for BHX or MAN on this front.

When did Uzbekistan operate to BHX?

Uzbekistan operated to BHX using 757's and also 767's when they operated BHX-Tashkent-JFK. It must ofbeen over 10 years ago since they were at BHX

Maybe not next year and especially if the BHX-JFK route stays free then i wonder if JetBlue would consider BHX when they start transatlantic. Advantage of them is they have a network to connect to at JFK. Could be one to watch for the future.

My deepest apologies but the above is incomplete due to VIRGIN MEDIA being obstinate with me in reducing service capabilities due to a banking blunder with my direct debit.

Many internet activities have been either frozen or compromised and my contributions may be affected to this forum.

Whilst many people here have demonstrated that there are a number of new airlines that BHX could be targeting, to me, growth and volume come as a consequence of new airlines establishing themselves and growing at an airport.... This is the key to BHXs success just as much as attracting new airlines....

The following is a prime example.

Vueling
S16 - 2x routes, 9x weekly flights = circa 3,250 seats per week
S17 (so far) - 4x routes, 14x weekly flights = circa 5,000 seats per week (54% Increase in Capacity)

Wizz
S16 - 6x routes, 14x weekly flights = circa 5,000 seats per week
S17 (so far) – 6x routes, 16x weekly flights = circa 6,400 seats per week (26% Increase in Capacity)

Blue Air
S16 – 1x route, 2x weekly flights = circa 680 seats per week
S17 (so far) – 3x routes, 10x weekly flights = circa 3,400 seats per week (400% Increase in Capacity)

Between those 3 airlines alone, in Summer 2016, they provided circa 8,950 seat per week out of BHX … however, come Summer 17, they are already providing 14,800 seats per week out of BHX, and its only October!!! That’s an increase of 5,850 seats a week or an increase in capacity of 65% on the year before!!!

That is growth, and that’s what BHX needs from all its new airlines… its just a shame, that at the moment, AA and NAX appear to be letting the side down, but there are winners and losers in business!!!

Totally agree Woody. Just 1 based aircraft on three rotations a day is 600 seats !!!! It's not all about chasing long haul.

On the Cardiff forum I saw this:

Vueling has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for 4 additional Airbus aircraft but no dates provided and nothing says Cardiff will benefit any of these.

Hasn't there been a rumour concerning an airline that currently operates out of BHX potentially basing two aircraft here and two aircraft at MAN for S17? One to keep an eye on.

Could not agree more. Unstandably given that he was the MP for Tatton, Osbourne was too northern powerhouse focussed. I get the impression we will get a fairer deal now.

Hope Mr Kehoe brings back some goodies for us. It will be great to us get America's 'second city' back on the arrivals and departures board.

I also hear that Mr Javid had an interview with United Airlines. In my opinion, now that they have got rid of American Airlines, this is now there great opportunity to cement there position as the airline to the USA from BHX.

The "Second" cities of the UK/USA should be linked.

Can we save this whole second city threads for the SSC forum.

They have no place on here as it clearly bears no relevance on the way the airports work. It's hard to conclusively prove, it will all end in tears and quite frankly, we are better than that on here.

I agree that although Birmingham is the second largest city, the 'second city' title is purely opiniated and hard to conclusively prove. For me, the fact that it was in inverted commas implied that BrumX himself knew this.

Back to aviation -
Manchester and Chicago are obviously linked - I am sure an EDI style UA 752 would work from BHX.
