Forgive me for my first ever contribution to this forum but I recall PIA operating Karachi-BIRMINGHAM-Toronto using A310 equipment but that was a while before even Air Blue operated the A340 for the Karachi route to BHX.

I am pleased however to be here.

Welcome JENNYJET. It's great to have you join Forums4Airports and we hope to read more posts from you in the future.

Well its great to hear that air blue/blue air have sights beyond MAN, although looking at their wiki page, Manchester will be their only international route outside the region. loiks like a big of a test but hope it goes well for them and we can welcome them back to BHX...

Pakistan is horrifically under served at BHX...

Welcome to the forum JENNYJET.
I think you are correct with the Toronto flight, was it twice weekly,Mon and Thu outbound,Tue and Fri on the return?
Also Peshawar operated Wed on a weekly basis
nwoody2001 you would indeed think that more flights would operate out to Pakistan.
We have one of the largest Pakistan communities not only in Britain but also Europe.
However I'm guessing the airlines believe that we are well served from MAN and LHR.

Yes welcome JENNYJET.

The Air Blue rumour has been circulating for a while and the few services they actually operated were pretty much full. Word is that they didn't exactly leave BHX on the best of terms (I'd rather not go in to specifics) so I hope things have been sorted out, as said Pakistan definitely needs more.

You'd imagine the PIA flights are being filled reasonably well, enough to warrant further flights. But BHX is put in the shade by LHR and MAN, lets face it. Considering the large Asian population there.

I don't think the PIA flights are doing great, based on my calculations :s_no

I went back through the BHX movement archives. In all there were 13 return flights in November (4 on Tuesday's, 4 on Thursday's, and 5 on Sunday's) which makes a total of 26 rotations. 20 rotations were on 777-200s with 329 seats each, and 6 were on 777-300s with 393 seats each.

Total number of seats available in November: 8938

Number of passengers in November: 5887

Load factor: 66 percent

November may not the best month for pax, but right now there isn't enough demand for extra flights.

It's very hard to take any of these potential new start ups seriously but that video looks like it was made at school. He really sees himself as the CEO of a major international airline?

Also, I have no problem with them talking about safety but why specifically reference the Germanwings crash and MH370 in that way? Very unprofessional and some might even say disrespectful.

I'll file these along with Flywho, Africaada, Akal Air, Air Syhlet .......

I'm just thankful that after a few embarrassments publicly backing this sort of thing, BHX now seemed to have learned their lesson. Quite rightly Mr Kehoe replied 'no comment' when asked about Africaada.

Transavia France, Air France's low-cost leisure arm, have recently announced flights from Paris Orly to both EDI and LTN, so what are the chances of them launching BHX?

To be honest I don't see why they can't do it—at EDI they will be serving Paris alongside easyJet, Flybe, and their fellow Air France subsidiary, HOP!, and EDI is just one of many destinations which are served by Transavia from ORY while being served by Air France or HOP! from CDG. If EDI, which is only a little bigger than BHX, can sustain four carriers on a popular route like Paris, then surely BHX can sustain three.

Transavia would be serving different markets from Air France, as well as different airports. Orly has the onward leisure connections to all the popular French overseas destinations like Martinique, Dakar, Cayenne, St Maarten, Guadeloupe and Reunion. It also has fantastic North African connections with the likes of Air Algerie, Tunisair and Transavia themselves, and that's something BHX could certainly do with! :s_yes

Transavia ex BHX

Yeah i was thinking the same the other day too, however BHX does have bigger equipment from Air France and i believe more frequency than EDI, but as you say Paris Orly and CDG serve different destinations around the world.

1 x daily to Orly should do fine i would assume.

I agree about capacity to Paris from Birmingham we have friends in Sutton Coldfield who have a daughter-in-law from Paris the fares from Birmingham Airport are very high I guess thats what AF and BE want! I think low fare competition could be good for passengers.
Daza

I've always been surprised that the UK regions have until now, not had sustained links to Orly.

It's the closer to the city centre, I find it's easier to navigate around the airport and into the city from Orly over CDG, and, as mentioned, it has some good leisure routes to connect onto too.

Hopefully we will see Transavia get a little braver, and add a few more UK routes.

Done some but still much to do. Comforting words from Mr K :good:

@bhxofficial we working hard to deliver. Done some but much more to do to get there. As the #MidlandsEngine grows so do we.

...and you all laughed at me when I predicted 11,250,000 ...that list from BHX however, is that seats available or predicted loads?!?

Hi there nwoody2001, you say that everyone laughed at you, with your prediction of 11,250,000 for 2016. What I would like to know, is, where your is from and do you realise based on 2015 of probably 10,150,000 passenger numbers for Birmingham at end of 2015, yet if your predicting 11,400,000 for 2016, that would be a massive 1 million plus extra passengers for next year, 2016, what I would like to know, is where are these passengers coming from and from which airline.. Andyc

Hi there ian, are these extra routes that flybe and monarch have announced on top of existing routes at all, so where are extra passengers and routes from flybe and monarch from...andyc

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
