I think the airline which applied for slots last year was Iraero. Flights to BHX did not fit with its profile at all with few useful connections. Likewise, Azur specialises in outbound tourism from Russia so none of the routes mentioned seems particularly likely.

A problem for the expansion of services from UK to Russia is the strict visa conditions between UK and Russia. I believe this was the main reason EZY pulled its LGW and MAN services. The market is heavily London focused but if the visa regime were ever eased, Aeroflot/Pobeda might look at MAN and EDI.

If the tour operators would support a Moscow route then there little reason for it to fail. London bound visitors can get a fast train if necessary and India and China bound passengers can connect with relevant services in Moscow. I understand the Visa problems, not least the horrific cost!

It's not just the cost is it? I belive you have to attend the Russian Embassy in London in person to obtain visa, you certainly did up until recently.

The demand from/to Moscow from Birmingham must be pretty tiny and the trains from Brum operate both ways. Meanwhile onward connections to the sub continent and the far east are pretty well covered from BHX in normal times at least ie Emirates, Qatar, Turkish, KLM, AF and others.

Mind you a couple of Ruski flights a week would be intresting but one for Cloud Cooko land I reckon.

I remember Azul Air visited BHX a few times during the last lockdown so could it be something to do with this. They are getting prepared to bring lots of PPI over to the UK and may offer some seats on the aircraft if required ??

In other news....

The bizarre recurring tradition of Russian carriers applying for (and probably not using) route permissions to Birmingham continues.

This time Aeroflot subsidiary Pobeda is the culprit for a 4x weekly Moscow-Birmingham. As per latest Rosaviatsiya press release for Dec 20.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
